Correct me if im wrong, but.....
If we can now charge a competitive rate to take the dsa off our competitors, wont this cause problems for RM ? I mean , now they have closed one or two mail centers made a few of us redundant, will RM be able to cope ???
I married my wife for her looks, but not the one she gave me when i said i was going to be a postman.

Re: Correct me if im wrong, but.....
RM wont be able to cope anyway| The big problem is they use their own figures for everything not the real ones. Hence its all been calculated on x amount of boxes with y anount of mail in it. Not our problem until they say we are all not working hard enough again, which is why its not working. Just my opion but.......

As of 1st April 2012, Post Office has separated from Royal Mail Group and has become an Independent Company. Should you accept an offer of employment for a role within Royal Mail, your employer would be Royal Mail Group. Likewise, should you accept an offer of employment for a role within Post Office, your employer would be Post Office Ltd.
How can moya be ceo of 2 companys? so basically they are cutting away the dead part of the company while the prophitable part "post office" makes money , increasing the price of stamps so that even if royal mail letters is sold ...... they can screw over the new take over company with there increased stamp sales?
Or will the new company have there own stamp methods? infact how will they make money atall if the " seperate" company is being paid stamp money?
How Exzactly does this seperate company "royal mail" make money ?
Sale imminent

you are joking..?
since we already deliver dsa! and always have.
winning the contracts justs means we will not be delivering it at a loss for our competitors.
but actually profiting from it.

Re: Correct me if im wrong, but.....
If large numbers of customers came back to RM from DSA then a lot of MCs would struggle with the extra outward traffic. Most MCs where they have merged three into one already struggle with physical space and clearing the work. I am all for getting the DSA work back, but it is incorrect to think that this won't put more pressure on MCs.chunk wrote:you are joking..?

you make a valid point .
a customer buys a 60p stamp at a PO counter
RMG has the obligation to supply 60p worth of service ie deliver the letter .
stamp money / cash taken for postage must circulate back to RMG
Perhaps they charge rmg a % for selling rmg,s stamps
the more i think about the stranger it seems

You're exactly right Phil.PhilthyPhil wrote:If large numbers of customers came back to RM from DSA then a lot of MCs would struggle with the extra outward traffic. Someone somewhere has no doubt crunched the numbers and decided that the extra revenue from having the work back in-house balanced against the cost of re-investing in Mailcentres to cope with the extra work really doesn't make sense which probably explains why DSA has only been hiked by 6-8% certainly far more convincingly than the nonsense argument that a larger increase would push DSA companies into end to end delivery.
The inconceivable truth may be that Royal Mail just doesn't want the work back and with a more reasonable price would be quite happy to see all the work move to DSA allowing for more rationalisation of the network.
It's not something they would ever be likely to admit though.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Isn't the PO now off on its own as a separate entity? Post Office group or something. Apologies if I'm talking nonsense.

Re: Correct me if im wrong, but.....
I think it would be the RDCs that would have issues as most of the work would probably come back as Mailsort.PhilthyPhil wrote:If large numbers of customers came back to RM from DSA then a lot of MCs would struggle with the extra outward traffic. Ahh got it now. We are both rightLegal Status and Ownership
Post Office Ltd operates as a limited company at arm’s length from Government. Post Office Ltd is currently a wholly owned subsidiary of Royal Mail Group Ltd, which in turn is a wholly owned subsidiary of Royal Mail Holdings plc. The Government owns 100% of Royal Mail Holdings plc. Following the passage of the Postal Services Act 2011, the Government intends to separate Post Office Ltd from Royal Mail, and is currently holding a national consultation on the potential mutual ownership of Post Office Ltd in due course.
http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... 8&start=75" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; The Postal Services Act 2011 contained confirmation of the government’s decision that Post Office Ltd will move from being an integral part of the Royal Mail Group to being a sister company to Royal Mail and a subsidiary of the parent company Royal Mail Holdings. POL will remain in public ownership.
So in essence its legal status has changed but not much else.

I initially focused on the posties ( as this is a blueshirt thread)! not seeing any difference in volume.
They wont.
but i also see your point, mailcentres will have the onus put on them, to pick up mail from the gas company(for example) where before tnt picked it up and dropped it off.
hence more network driver hours. etc which you rightly suggest is counter to the downsizing /rationalization going on at the moment.
the notion that space will be an issue ?i think that dsa already physically takes up a lot of space in centres so it comes down to extra
processing space?
its totally doable if rm want it to happen even at zero profit its better than 2p a letter loss.
always difficult trying to predict the hidden agendas.
