park and loop advice needed asap
i have asked to sit down and talk with both my union rep and manager together to find out what is the official policy on carrying and trollies , in 6 months of park and loop my partner who is the driver has always carried and has never used a trolley [maybe once] which means he nearly always finishes before me , i did for a while jog round to keep a balance even if only for my own morale , any way recently i realised that i was doing as much of the larger packet delivery as he was simply because i had a trolley and therefore twobags to fill ,he only carries one .also he starts an hour or two before official start time i used to come in early but have now decided to start and work my official start times which has caused more anomosity [not as much as when i said i was not going to use the trolley and carry instead which i dont do did it for a few days ]any way
QUESTION 1.......WHAT IS THE OFFICIAL STANCE ON TROLLIES V CARRYING....................
QUESTION 2......WHAT FOOD BREAKS AM I ALLOWED OUR DELIVERY IS 27 HR WEEK..................
QUESTION 3........"CUTTING OFF" UNION REPS RESPONSE WHEN I TOLD HIM I WAS WORKING MY HOURS ONLY WAS THEY WONT ACCEPT YOU CUTTING OFF OR PAY YOU..................
QUESTION 4 ..........ONE OF MY LOOPS CAN GET VERY BUSY AND GETS ALOT OF PACKETS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU GET 3 BAGS ON ONE LOOP especially as he only has one bag................
QUESTION 5 .............. IS IT ACCEPTED AND OK FOR THE DRIVER TO START DELIVERING HIS NEXT LOOP BEFORE YOU HAVE FINISHED YOUR LAST ONE..........................
QUESTION 6 .............TIMINGS ON LOOPS DO THEY EXIST I FEEL ON 3 OF MY LOOPS THAT THEY ARE WAY OUT BUT I CANT PROVE THIS BECAUSE HE CARRIES AND WOULD BE QUICKER BECAUSE OF THAT ANYWAY [CORNER CUTTING ETC] .............
are there any other questions anyone can think off i should ask i am not going to be confrontational ,i want to be ready for the responses i expect and be aware of what choices i really have sorry to be so long winded many thanks

1:If you are on P&L and the duty has been allocated one which it probably has then you have to use a trolley,it is mandatory.
2:5hrs or over a day 30mins.
3:Get a new rep.
4:Do what you can do,your partner does what he can do,maybe the loops could be looked at.
5:See 4
6:Partner is a tosser.
Ask for someone to come out and time/watch you 2.

Re: park and loop advice needed asap
thanks for getting back to me the duty im on was the first p&l duty in the office i was the first to test it with the official tester over 15 months ago the issues i had with it then are still there today ,though part of the loops were modified by people who did the walk for a couple of months after initial test, we have been doing this duty as a pairing for 7 months with the unnofficial modifications put in ie at tying up.the guy i work with is a flyer so it was a demanding ask from the off but i managed to keep pace [jogged] went in early to get this team building going . but the difference i noticed apart from my weight loss and fitness levels was it the end of the day i was f*****d ,i knew i had more to do than him because i used the trolley ,and bag ratio was 8 or 9 to 5 but recently it started to get to me that my bags were full with packets drivers used to do when he the man with the van had none, so last week i eased in to the conversation that i was gonna start to carry so just give me one bag within two days he was aggrevated enough to say he was only doing half the large packets and reverted back the loops to the ones laid out on the frame . i have now decided to start on my proper times and finish. since the change ive caught him delivering his next loop while im dead walking back to the van taking 20 + mins to deliver 4 pkts today he dissappeared for 30 mins while i was on the biggest loop [reverted] and what used to take him 30 mins to do now takes him 45 with 42 less delivery points, sits in the van while waiting for you to finish hes clearly trying to aggravate the situation ,hes gonna be upset when i start taking my 30 min break mid morning. THE RESPONSE UNNOFICIALLY FROM MY MANAGER WHEN I ASKED ABOUT TROLLIES WAS WE ARE GOING TO AT SOME POINT MAKE PEOPLE USE THE TROLLIES THE REP WAS A SHRUG OF THE SHOULDERS AND THEY SHOULD BE USING TROLLIES [WITH NO CONVICTION] I BELIEVE ON ONE OF MY DAYS OFF THE MANAGERS SURVEYED THE OFFICE ASKING WHO USES THE TROLLEY OR CARRIES I BELIEVE MY PARTNER SAID HE USED THE TROLLEY, HOW DO YOU GET A NEW REP IF THEY ARE WELL INBEDDED IN. the result is i feel im being victimised because i use the trolley and taken advantage off because i use the trolley ive yet to decide if i am being targeted and intimidated ,as for getting some one to come and watch and time officially that wont work or happen .ive had no cofirmed date for this talk i want , but i want to be fully armed with official policy factsPOSTMAN wrote:1:If you are on P&L and the duty has been allocated one which it probably has then you have to use a trolley,it is mandatory.

Re: park and loop advice needed asap
just a point maybe about the loops and timing, you do realise that the drivers loops are meant to be planned as shorter than the passangers loops? ie driver should be around roughly 35min per loop and passanger around 45 min per loop that is to enable driver to get back to van and deliver the large packets for BOTH of the loops in that roughly spare 10 Minutes or so

Re: park and loop advice needed asap
i dont get your point mate read what the thread is about its about trolly and carry its about having a buddy who takes the piss ,its about about lack of support from royal mail and the cwu rep as for the loops on at least 2 there is a difference of more than 5 one more than 20 mins also the drivers loops are not meant to be shorter on all loops only some. he gets time for at least 6 cigarettes and a lunch break i dont get one ,like i say read the postzx135 wrote:in that case are you able to complete your duty in your time?twobags wrote:yes my loops are longer ive no problem with that but by the third loop he has no larger packets left to deliver but i still may in my bagszx135 wrote:just a point maybe about the loops and timing, you do realise that the drivers loops are meant to be planned as shorter than the passangers loops? ie driver should be around roughly 35min per loop and passanger around 45 min per loop that is to enable driver to get back to van and deliver the large packets for BOTH of the loops in that roughly spare 10 Minutes or so

Re: park and loop advice needed asap
I'm not really a fan of building in 10 minutes a loop for large packets.
On a 6 loop delivery that's an hour to do what,on an average day in my D.O. is around 6-8 oversized packets.
A bit of a piss take really, like twobags says...what does the driver do if he has no packets?
I just bet he helps out his mate.

Re: park and loop advice needed asap
my point is what difference is it if he is getting time to have six cig breaks or not, as long as you have sufficient time to complete your duty correctly within your hours then what otehr people are doing shouldnt bother you, if he is running and cutting corners taking short cuts etc dont worry about it as your only having to work your hours and if you need to then cut off, dont stress out what other people are or are not doing just do your job properlytwobags wrote:i dont get your point mate read what the thread is about its about trolly and carry its about having a buddy who takes the piss ,its about about lack of support from royal mail and the cwu rep as for the loops on at least 2 there is a difference of more than 5 one more than 20 mins also the drivers loops are not meant to be shorter on all loops only some. he gets time for at least 6 cigarettes and a lunch break i dont get one ,like i say read the postzx135 wrote:in that case are you able to complete your duty in your time?twobags wrote:yes my loops are longer ive no problem with that but by the third loop he has no larger packets left to deliver but i still may in my bagszx135 wrote:just a point maybe about the loops and timing, you do realise that the drivers loops are meant to be planned as shorter than the passangers loops? ie driver should be around roughly 35min per loop and passanger around 45 min per loop that is to enable driver to get back to van and deliver the large packets for BOTH of the loops in that roughly spare 10 Minutes or so

Re: park and loop advice needed asap
twobags can you drive?
(innocent question)
if you can then may I suggest that you ask to rotate the driving duties?
ie one week he drives next week you do
that has been a very simple equaliser in our office as it lets both parties see exactly what the other is doing
and is a reasonable request if one party thinks the other is doing less/more and adds to the skills register in the office should anyone go sick

lol, there so should be one..
but the other guy is correct.you are one of the vast majority of royal mail employees ,indeed of the human race ,that is never contented with his lot in life and always see's the grass is greener elsewhere..
you see that hes back at the van doing nothing with his feet up ,and he see's himself day after day waiting for you instead of cracking on with delivering.
just do your bit ,at a normal steady pace and as long as you finished within your duty time you have nothing to complain about.your getting paid for those hours no matter how fast you run.
and a very sensible seggestion..rotate driving

Re: park and loop advice needed asap
Unless there is a massive difference in performance levels which is unlikely....it's piss poor planning having someone back at the van doing nothing with their feet up....driver or non-driver
Why should members just accept piss poor planning?
That's what the Post Implementation Review period is for.
That's what your rep is for.
