taking your break

We were told today that as of next week we will be required to take half your break once sorting is complete and before leaving the office, and the other half sometime later out on delivery. Are the management trying it on? or is this an agreed thing.

No, the break can't be split.
The requirements are:
the break must be in one block
it cannot be taken off one end of the working day - it must be somewhere in the middle
you are allowed to spend it away from the place on your employer's premises where you work
your employer can say when the break must be taken, as long as it meets these conditions

The requirement is the 20 minute break you are legally entitled to must be taken in one block.
The fact we have twice the legal requirement means we can split it 20/20.

Or rather it must be scheduled because there is no real way of enforcing it unless you remove job and finish.

Half your break works for 7+ hour contracts (i.e. 20 minutes) but not for 6-7 hour contracts...

Everyone working more than a 6 hour day is entitled to a 20 minute block of break in the middle of their working day, so a 6 hour contract should only take 10 mionutes before leaving the office.

Unless as a 6 hour contract you are still doing indoor work around the 3 hour mark of your shift!

I don't really know how to convey how much I hate the fact that job and knock still exists.
I hate it more than I hate Thatcher.

Just to stir the pot a little more, our office has had its revision and we have a wide disparity between the duties.
For the few walks that can be finished on,or before, time job & finish still exists.

Relations in the office ain't great between the chosen few and the rest of us, the great unwashed.

I sometimes wonder if it's not a deliberate policy of RM's. Divide and rule and all that.
