Fiddling holiday

This is a purely theoretical question but would it be possible for a person with the correct knowledge be able to make holiday days disappear? basically if you had one days entitlement from the previous year could that be 'deleted' without it being taken?

Yes

The only record of holiday entitlement is held by the DOM.
At 0ur DO. last year the DOM's computer gave up the ghost, so he came and asked everyone if he owed then any leave ( few were quick and said yes and got extra days not owed to them )
I asked him why he could'nt just ask the payroll dept and he said that he had tried that and they can't tell him either.

My office always loose hols owed, but for the last 6 years have wised up to this, keep ALL print outs of hols, then if days go missing, just photcopy your sheets and give to manager to prove that you are owed hols , usually works.

Last year I had the best part of 7 weeks, I mentioned that I'd had all my leave but they insisted I was due another week, and who am I to argue.

pretty sure our dom is ''fiddling'' some staff out of days in our office. he says under the 9 day fortnight system, we work 4.5 days a week. so if you have a week off where you,re day off is tuesday, then you have used 5 days annual leave, so he owes you a half a day. if on the other hand you take a week a/l where you are due to be off on a wed and thurs, you have only used 4 days annual leave, so YOU owe HIM a half a day. this sounds right, but it isnt. if you take 2 weeks a/l and you are due to be off on wed and thurs on you,re first week, then friday and sat of the second week, then you have used up 8(eight) days a/l. but under his system, he says you,ve used 9. because you owe him a half a day on week one, and a half a day on week 2, which is utter bollox. if you use up 8 days, then you USE UP 8 DAYS END OF. he,s using this very confusing system to befuddle people. there are staff coming out of his office who dont know wether they are coming or going so they just give him the benefit of the doubt.

I've known of a manager who rarely got round to recording leave taken such that it was common place for less scrupulous staff to take significantly more than they were entitled to.

Aye. Is this with the new PSP sytem? If so, I expect we'll see much more of this (cos holiday entitlement is now based on HOURS, not DAYS) so we're getting screwed. Again !

I actually watched two collegues discussing this the other day (with quizical look on my face) and when asked why I looked like that, I said "I'm just waiting for the penny to drop, lads....."

There is a another possibility. That the DOM is not the sharpest tool in the box, is befuddled himself by the system, but cannot admit to it in front of staff, and just pretends to know what he's talking about.

It wouldn't be the first or last time a manager has used the 'baflle-them-with-bullsh!t' approach to try to make people believe they are actually competent to do their job

Yes it happened to me. I even had the proof. The Dom insisted he don't make mistakes.

Always keep your leave cards,and if you manage to get an odd day off,get an updated copy.
