help with resource meeting in a mail centre

experienced union reps-need help

shadowing my union rep as i am about to take over his role but am totally new to the practice of looking into the resourcing for my shift.
Been given the figures today at the resource meeting by the shift manager with the awd against the forecast figures.She states that for most of the days the actual working hours exceed the forecast and therefore there can be no prelisted overtime for our shift as we are over budget.Being totally new to this can i ask for the awd to be broken down into actual area hours rather than just a daily grand figure and also can i ask for the forecast and tools used to be explained to me? therefore i can get some understanding of it because otherwise it is their figures and calculations that we rely on!!
