RE: Tariff Increase – Quadrant Catering



As reported in LTB 997/2011 we received correspondence from Quadrant indicating that in light of our comments the increase would be held for December and a meeting would be arranged to resolve outstanding issues.



A productive meeting took place on Wednesday 14th December attended by my department and Katrina Quirke PEC member. A number of issues were raised and discussed at that meeting and we subsequently received a document indicating that Quadrant intend to implement a tariff price increase from 4th January 2012. However, during our discussions a number of positive issues were discussed including the fact that Quadrant were continuing with their on-going promotions and have agreed to extend them, this included their current trial of a “fill your plate” range of meals for £2.50 with a view to rolling this out further. The trial proved very popular with our members and sales had increased by 18% since its introduction. We also asked for some comparisons with high street prices and whilst Quadrant intends to collate further information they have provided prices for some items that compare very competitively with places such as Greggs and Asda. For example, Greggs offer bacon or sausage roll and coffee for £2.40 (eat out) and £2.88 (eat in), Quadrant price is £2.20. Asda five item breakfast is £2.49 whilst Quadrant’s price is £1.90.



We have informed Quadrant that although we understand the tariff increase is minimal we will only be in a position to note their increase with the Postal Executive and not agree it. Due to time constraints the Postal Executive document will be placed on the January agenda.



On another positive note, we have also persuaded Quadrant to cease their tariff review dates of twice a year and the review will now only take place once a year for implementation in October as this ties in with the beginning of their financial year. Whilst we fully appreciate that these minimal increases may concern some of our members we believe it is imperative to try and offer some good news in respect of their on-going promotions and the stabilisation of other products within Quadrant, and continue to seek the assistance of reps in persuading our members to use these facilities rather than lose them.

i was at ''rehab works physio'' yesterday, its on northumrian water premises, their klix vending machine has ALL drinks free. lovely cappucino as well. how do they do it??

Not a problem for most of us delivery donkeys, I'm sure that we only have a couple of vending machines (that are being used less and less as the price goes up and up), I can get cans of coke from Tesco for 28p per tin or pay 70p from the vending machine.........coffee cups for 13p that just need hot water added instead of the 40p in the vending machine.

aye, i saw the tea coffee and soup cups for a quid for ten at herons,,exactly the same as the ones quadrant are charging 40p a cup for. cant understand why people choose to pay more.

what i cant understand is why quadrant is more expensive than my local corner shop.
quadrant canteen facilities are subsidised
even after adding VAT on cooked food, the figures just dont add up

this is no more than a sustained attack to stop people using the canteen and then use that as an excuse to close it
