Dear Colleagues,

CFC (Culler Facer Cancellers) - Upgrade & PUWER Health & Safety Improvements:

Royal Mail is currently planning to upgrade their CFC (Culler Facer Cancellers) in the Operation.
 
The CFC Unsupportable Equipment Management Project or CFC UEM Project was approved this year, to upgrade Royal Mail's CFCs to prevent failure in the operation due to obsolescence and to improve health and safety through the installation of PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations) guarding.
 
The upgrades include a new control panel, new data transmission system, some small components and the new guarding.
 
The upgrade work will provide for both an improvement in the safety features and the upgraded systems will avoid failures due to obsolescence. It should be noted that there is no added functionality, no quality improvement or increased throughput on the CFCs as a result of these upgrades.
 
In terms of timeline, here are the key high level milestones:-
 
Testing in Unit 2d Swindon (non-Operational area) - September – December 2011
Pilot site installation (Swindon Mail Centre) - January – April 2012
Full deployment roll out - April 2012 – August 2012
 
CWU ASRs and local Reps will be fully engaged and consulted locally. This is taking place in Swindon, the Pilot Site, and the Project Manager has assured CWU Health, Safety & Environment Department that our Reps and Members will be keep involved in the deployment process both at the Pilot site and nationally.

Yep, the CFCs are so old and knackered they barely print anything at all on the envelope, nevermind actually cancel the stamp.
