RE: Reasonable Adjustments Made (RAM) Trial at South Midlands Mail Centre



We have been in discussions with CWU reps at the South Midlands Mail Centre who have agreed terms of reference with Royal Mail to trial a Reasonable Adjustments Made card (RAM). The RAM card acts as a quick and easy piece of literature that an employee who has restrictions can hand to any manager, should they be requested to perform work outside of their capabilities. This would prevent any employee facing any forms of stress that such individuals go through in these circumstances. The card would therefore be beneficial to the employee and the manager, both will understand what capabilities have been agreed for the individual to perform.



A motion was carried at the Equality Conference regarding this issue and branches have been keen to introduce a like for like scheme. We would ask branches and Area Reps to refrain from introducing such a scheme until we have had the opportunity to assess the trial at the South Midlands Mail Centre. If, as we believe, the trial is successful we will have no hesitation in seeking to pursue the matter further with the business.



We would like to take the opportunity of thanking Kate Hudson CWU Women’s Officer, Brian Booth, CWU Equality Officer, Gareth Eales, Area Processing Representative and local managers for agreeing this initiative and as previously stated we will keep branches informed of developments.
