Re: Factsheets - Equal Opportunities
I'm not intending to undermine the good work done by these people for equal opportunities. However looking through a lot of these subjects there doesn't seem to be anything that deals with the equal opportunities of all Royal Mail Staff to earn a Decent Wage and be offered Decent Contracts of Employment.
We have the continuing "Culling" of Long Service Full Time Posties, and the employment of more and more Temporary Part Timers on RUBBISH contracts. The latest scam is the rise of ANGARD, as RMs own little agency, obviously created to get around employment legislation and employee more part timers on even worse contracts.
In my opinion the people at HQ seem to missing the BIG PROBLEMs and concentrating their efforts on those that don't seem to require as much "Conflict" with Royal Mail Top Management. Some areas of Discrimination seem fairly Black & White, to a layman, and RM would get a good kicking at an Industrial Tribunal if they discriminated against a Postie because of colour, sexual orientation or a disability (which is quite correct).
However when operating in the "Greyer" areas of discriminating against Posties because of their Contracts, or the Fact they're working "Properly", or that the Manager doesn't like them and favours his "Pets", Royal Mail just runs amok and doesn't give a damn!
Perhaps the CWU should put a bit more effort into these kinds of areas!

Like all Wage Slaves, he had two crosses to bear: The people he worked for and the people he worked with! (Stephen Vizinczey.)
