Wondering if anyone could clarify the situation regarding new job positions. I'm one of many 20 hour short contract OPGs in our office. Recently, two new OPGs were taken on, both on 25 hour contracts. None of the serving 20 hour posties in our office were aware that the posts had been advertised. I spoke to both the DOM & DIMs and asked why those posts weren't first offered to those on shorter hours and then the new vacancies advertised at 20 hours which to me seemed logical. Short discussion and of course the short answer being ' Oh, yes, we'll make sure that it doesn't happen again.'
So, imagine my surprise as I'm looking at the RM job vacancy website when I spot a new vacancy in our office for 25 hours!! Not sure what, if anything can be done apart from having another fruitless moan. Maybe chat with the union rep? I've no idea, but I think it's a bit off that none of the existing staff get a shout at more hours.
Any suggestions? As it stands I'm normally getting more than my contracted hours but it would be nice to have an extra 5 hours as basic for leave periods etc.

The rep 'should' be aware of staffing levels and what is needed to be recruited.What happened to you shouldn't of.

If these jobs have already been filled then get your rep to flag it up.
Something like this happened in our office last year so one of the guys who were over looked put in a grievance and got the jobs readvertised and their hours moved up.

Same has happened to me. Currently half way through a 6 month 20 hour per week contract but on a 30 hour per week rural round. Noticed that 2 x 12 month 24 hour per week contract vacancies were advertised for my DO so decided to apply online as you never get an honest response from the Office Manager. Checked my emails when I got home from work today and was thanked for my interest but on this occasion my application was unsuccessful.
Glad to see my punctuality, flexibility and commitment have been appreciated by RM and the Office Manager.
