pressure from DOM

Post by eastie »

A new thing in our office is a crossed armed DOM standing there looking down the line at the manual sorters putting mail into walks.
stopping anyone talking and bullying into sorting fast.
Also people with rediculously long walks are going over, no worries, but if you say you are cutting off he is standing there looking as though you just told him youve shagged his wife, and saying "you will be tied up in half and hour and complete wont you" and when you say "your having a laugh I have 3 households to throw off, redi's, turn packets , sort out York of packets for our van, do specials, kill offs and MEAL RELIEF!!". They then say can you work your meal relief and book it as overtime :no no .
In my office the part timers are supposed to start at 7.30am but due to Park and Loop they want us to start the same time as your fulltime partner at 6.15am during the transition but we cant get out before 10am.
This has been going on for 4 months and to finish our round we need to start delivering by 9am to finish at 2.30 pm.
But if this hasselling carries on I will say sod it, not come in early to throw my round off and I will start at 7.30am, then they will get an even bigger cut off

Better look fast then Dohnut ! Sadly p and loopy is about 5-6 hours of walking ! Some do 4hours and then a big collection on the end !!! Which of course used to be a SA and optional !!! It's so sad seeing the pressure and stress in this job and like you say it's too much and will damage the body over time for sure - where's the sense in all this ??!! Far too much walking - yes we accept change , yes savings but there were other ways !!!

I used to be able to complete my walk in just under three hours on a heavy day, and my walk is considered one of the longer ones on our section. Now, with all of the Specials, oversized, Tracked, etc it takes about 4 hours 40 minutes. P&L really is that bad, make no mistake. But I do enjoy cutting off. :nana

I have never known a revision where money/overtime has not been put in during the transitional period.
If the IPS has been changed, if the frame layout has been changed then people will need a period to adapt.
If people want to earn some extra money they should be allowed to.

The o/t should decrease as people adapt to the changes.
The problem is if it isn't.

yes normal rate, every single parttimer comes in early as that is what we did before the revision.
We have one person suspended for shouting back at the DOM after cutting off, another one is leaving due to childcare issues as cannot finish in time to pick up his kids from school, and 2 others with back and leg injuries and this is just THIS WEEK and our office only has 30 postmen

I meant coming in early without being paid for it
Another point is WHY should we come in early when they constantly make these "changes" and expect us to make them work?
If motherhubbard an hour or so in O/T means that much to you fine, but consider this... it will make it seem the new way of delivery is working when clearly within our hours for the day it wont! :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh

Ebbzie - why are you getting your knickers in such a twist?
Whenever a revision goes in, there will be o/t available to aid the transition.
If you don't want to do that o/t then don't.
Some people might need the extra money and I don't see why they should be told not to take advantage of any o/t on offer.
No revision works without extra resources being put in at first.
As I said, the problem is if the revision isn't working when those extra resources start to be withdrawn.

Ebbzie - perhaps if you stopped banging your head against the wall you might be able to think a little more clearly.
I don't do any overtime. I don't need to.
So how am I affecting the rest of you? How am I getting people laid off?
Yet I am not so arrogant to come on here and tell other people they must not do any.

Will refusing to do any o/t during the transitional period after the implementation of a revision save any substantive jobs?

No..instead of the overtime being spread amongst the part-time staff starting early it will be picked up by the docket grabbers as "cut offs" at the other end or members will feel pressured to complete for free.

Starting early(paid) during the initial phase of a revision is not a bad thing,it's easy money,it gives members a chance to bed in with the new sorting and if a case can be shown for it..can lead to increased permanent hours for part-timers.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

What hope is there . You just keep making these changes work :Applause
When this revisions finished and you have "made" it work they will be back to cut more hours/jobs and throw you a few hours O/T to make it work again so yes i will keep banging my head on the wall :arrrghhh
