Duty cover to get away early

Please could anyone tell me if I am allowed to get part of my duty covered by a postman friend who I would not pay but do the odd job for him after hours.This has changed as not too long ago in a work time learning session we were told all we had to do was put it in the swap book but just put that this was cover not a swap but today 27.07.11 I approached the second in charge of my office and was told this was not the case and all you could do is swap a duty and cover his duty at a latter date.

During my induction training we were told we could cover for each other, swop bits of work etc as long as the job got done. Although that was 28 1/2 years ago. No idea if thats still the case. There is something in the 2010 agreement though about it in the flexi bit I think.

Do as he suggests then - doubt he will ever check that you actually did the swap later on. We do it at my place all sorts of arrangements, swaps, cash in hand, like for like etc and it all goes through no problem.

I would just make sure you tell your line manager to cover you and your friend. If he is doing part of your route and has an accident and you've not told your manager then they could turn round and say he was off route and shouldnt have been doing that delivery so he's not covered for accident on delivery or insurance.

Not sure why your manager is so bothered about you returning the favour "officially" as long as the job gets done.

Just put it in the swap book as required and then put the return swap in the day after. Pretty sure they're not going to follow you around to make sure it's you doing it and not your mate.
