medical appiontments

i would like to know if you have a medical appointment which requires you to take 1or 2 hrs of work ,do you have to use a lieu day or swap a rota day off to allow you to attend
if someone could let me know correct procedure plz

Regular medical treatment and hospital appointments:
Where regular treatment or hospital appointments are occurring the employee should try and get appointments outside work hours and Royal Mail should help by arranging changes to working hours wherever possible. Managers should treat requests for additional time off with sympathy bearing in mind that a stoppage of pay may add to the stress of having to attend hospital for treatment or for hospital appointments. Individuals involved in hospital treatment or those attending a hospital appointment should provide confirmation of from their Doctor or the hospital, and absences should not count towards attendance procedure.

thanks fishtank ,my appointment was made at a time when our office was going thro a revision .which meant i did not know what i would be doing or when ,i notified with evidence of my appointment and nothing was said about any difficulties . when i reminded them on sat my appointment was the next mon i was told i would have to change my day off or put a lieu day in and was given only that day to make my mind up . due to the good will of a brother who is covering part of my duty i can make the appointment

What is the time of the appointment in relation to your duty time.

While i realise offices differ and managers differ,at our place as the appointment is ususally late morning or the after noon our guys usually come in for the early part and prep their walks and do ips ect depending on the time of their appointment.
The walk is then given out on docket,is that not a possibility?
