how do i join?

hi im new starter at royal mail and am interested in joining the union. no one has approached me about it. im not even sure who the union rep is. is there anywhere i can join online? or does it have to be through the rep? cheers.

Ask one of your colleagues who the rep (if you have one) is,that is a big must anyway.

If it's anything like my office the union rep is the one in the manager's office drinking cups of tea.

Well on the face of it I would say thats fine - they should be in the office on a daily basis just for the resources meeting. Also if you have a revision up and coming they may need to talk about that. If there are disagreements again they need to be discussed.

The only reason I am posting this is that a lot RMC members use this line as a put down towards their own rep, but without more information as to why members think its wrong, it does not mean much. Now if they are best of mates and the rep has a really easy duty, or the rep always sides with management without good reason, or they agreeing to changes without informing or getting the backing of their membership then that is wrong and they should be deselected.
