Revisions and MTSF

Post by noncwumember »

I hope someone may be able to help here.

Office going through P&L revision, WS etc., we have been told that any surplus full time staff are to be retained, ie no VR's.

Management say that all surplus FT staff will be sent to other offices. Fact is there are no vacancies in these other offices.

Our area rep was called today for advice and I am told that he said accept 1 in 6 Saturday's off, in order to protect FT jobs.

They are queuing up in our office to get out on VR.

As I understand it, this deal only went through because a guaranteed 1 in 4 Saturday's off was the deal breaker, so why would we wish to accept anything less.

As for retaining FT surplus staff, why were Mail Centre surplus staff not asked to go to other D.O.s.(not that I would wish that on anyone). It seems to me that we are not being treated in the same manner that others have been treated as regards VR's under MTSF.

If there are no vacancies at other D.O.s surely our surplus FT staff should be offered VR.

Don't worry when your revsion comes in you will need every spare member of staff available to deliver the mountain of daily cut offs. 1 in 4 Sats can reduce the FT staff if the DOM is too lazy to look at other options. You can have 1 in 4 Sats and retain FT work but DOM and possibly REP are not thinking creatively enough. VRs are a thing of the past I'm afraid, the business have been stung with this too many times. The best you can hope for is a Compulsory Redundancy with 'enhanced' terms.....

we have had our revision in for some time now, and the amount of money ROYAL MAIL are putting in try and make it work is beyond belief,,, the walks are 5 hours long, and our posties are using bags to deliver the post because the trollies are just way to slow to use, they be out till 10 at nite, if they used trollies... just to sum it up it's not working full stop, i'm just wondering when the money will run out,, and tell us no wages this week, it's that bad,,, every day is getting worse..

How are you allowed to use bags when trolleys are part of the agreement. If using the trolley adds hours to your walk then CUT OFF it really is that simple. :no no :no no :no no

Royal Mail do not want to pay VRs for introducing delivery revisons as once they pay VR to indivduals then it normally takes up to three years before the savings are materilised. Now the reality is that MTSF puts a number of measures first before VR and that is what Royal Mail are applying.

Now in terms of where indivduals are being transfered to that has to be within reasonable travelling distance. Royal Mail have not recuirted in delivery offices on a permanent basis for sometime and therefore they have normally got either vacancies or intend to sack Fixed term contracts to accommidate permanent surplus full time jobs.

Royal Mail have introduced appoxamately 200 walk sequencing intregrated revisions which include park and loop , in addition to this they have employed geo route revisons with park and loop. The majority of these revisons have intially been a disaster. Some have improved over a period of time , a significant number have not and most have had to put hours back in.

Regional Managers have been told they cannot introduce an intregrated delivery revison with park and loop if they have any vacancies and they can only introduce revisons on a phased basis. This is my guess why managers are moving these indivduals even thou these offices will have a revison.

I cannot comment on what your area rep has said about the 1 in 6 Saturdays protecting full time jobs. It will depend on the options which have been scoped. The reality in some cases if you are moving to a four day week or 9 day fortnight you do tend to increase the amount of part timers as the more hours you do per day will mean that you will be available to do more prep.

Now in terms of mail centre employees being transfered to delivery offices it will depend on what is happening in the mail centre.

My advice to you is that you need to join the CWU , the fact is you are on your own without a voice in the workplace unless your in the union.

Dingo,

Thanks for taking the time to enlighten me on these issues.

I come on here for information to help the office as a whole, not for just me personally.

We have a surplus of 4 FTs. There are no vacancies around, so what other measures could they use before VR.

We are looking at 1 in 3 Saturday's off.

We are talking about hundreds of VR's paid out to Mail Centre employees who could have filled these apparent vacancies.

We are all the same grade, so why treat us differently from others.

There already has been VR's at nearby D.O.s.

As already stated I appreciate you taking the time to comment on these issues. You need to look again at my username.

It was a bit of a protest at the lack of communication from CWU.

I am indeed a CWU member, on here referred to as non CWU member. I don't know how to change it.

If necessary I will PM you with location.

Thanks.
