Striking on a temporary contract?

Post by PostiewithaPorsche »

ive been reading through some thread that talk about striking action and got me thinking. i will still be temporary for upto another year and a half and wondered where my employment would stand if there was an all out strike and i joined in with the protest?
am i under the same obligation(as a union member) as everyone else in the union to strike or if my employment is at risk would scabbing be acceptable?
I would personally stick up for the union and its members if it came to strike action but as ive mentioned i would be worried about continued employment after it was over, or after a revision of my contract where the manager would just say, you caused RM trouble by striking so we cannot offer you a contract of employment anymore.

they'd have to have grounds not relevent to the strike to dismiss/not renew. btw when did you join RM, when you say 1 year and a half do you mean 2 years? or 4

No as far as I know its illegal to sack people who take part in a legally mandated strike.

i started a couple of days before the 2007 strikes and found myself in the same position.

TBH my mind was not made up until the day before and i went out.
