There's a very simple but effective way of resolving all of the problems that we are facing at the moment and it wont cost a penny in lost earnings by needing to go out on strike.
The solution is work to rule, and a carpet ban on o/t. If everyone did just exactly what they were supposed to do, no more or less ie come in on time not before, and finish on time not after, either voluntary or paid, and took your break not work through it, and have your day / leave off instead of working them, then RM would have to start sitting up and taking notice. For far too long now RM have taken us for granted and expected us to go the "extra mile"and we have allowed this to happen, and what we face now is as a result. It is now time to say finally enough is enough and take a stand. Short term sacrifices will lead to long term gains in respect of a change to the paltry contracts that RM are offering at present to new starters, more p/t being made up to f/t, otherwise work just wont get done as there isn't enough hours to meet demands. Ultimately this would lead to benefits being shared across the board a majority f/t work force once again which is what we strive for, and a company which once again we can say we are proud to work for, otherwise nothing will change.

Sounds good in principle and would work if there was 100 percent support, unfortunately every office has the management pets who would sell there soul for a few hours overtime and sod everyone else. You know the sort, forever sniffing round the managers office to see whats going and would work from dawn to dusk to line there own pockets.
You also have the ones who are so heavily mortgaged of in debt that your idea would seem to be a blessing from heaven to enable them to earn enough to give themselves some breathing space.
Not to mention the fools who would still come in early just because they havent the brains to see the bigger picture.
Alas post people have also been the architect of there own downfall and i cant see that ever changing.

I agree in principle as well. But there are also some horrible managers to take into account as well. Ive seen 3 managers take a young lad who was cutting off into the office and break him with bullying tactics! Things like this are common place so imagine what some of these managers would be like if we were all working to rule? You also have the other extreme what about nice managers? There are some managers at my place who go the extra mile, make sure your paid OT fairly and generally look out for you. Do we shaft them because the rest of royal mail are c***s?

Totally agree with you there and iam all for it, i always have been Trouble is its been tried before and although a very successful method it needs people to stick together 100% . As others have aready said the grabbers cant help themselves and they break ranks

To be fair 'grabbers' can be a bit harsh, a lad in my office who is my mate, admittedly, has to work 55-65 hours a week to make ends meet at home, his wife is poorly and he's the only earner in his household so I'd be careful with the quotes you are putting on here...........don't tar everybody with the same brush, his need is necessity, not greed.

Whilst I agree with the work to rule in principle, but it has to be the whole office, as a part timer, with a son at Uni, and another about to leave school, I'm not that keen on giving up what bit of excess I get, so that some runner, come in early johnny, can get even more.

He doesn't spend much time at home then nursing his sick wife tending to her needs if he's spends that amount of time at work ...kind of pot, kettle if you ask me

If you want to take industrial action...take industrial action,don't fanny about at the edges screwing over the part-timers who would have to go home with half a wage while full-timers lost f**k all.

Then he should be caring for her and on carers allowance. 55-65 hours a week is not caring for his Mrs health comes before money so I would put that down to very greedy!
