hi people i always wanted to work for the post office the day i left school but never had the chance to . after trying to get on the list to work for royalmail i went to a private parce company called dpd in exeter devon after years trying to get on the post office a job came up in my local sorting office in exeter 3 month temp so i asked my postman about it he said no point they are geting rid of people. because of cut back but he said try next year when royalmail go private they make take on full time staff so i am asking what do u think? will they take on staff when you will go private many thanks steve.

Full time staff - In my honest opinion not a chance a privatised RM would take on new FT staff at anything near 30 or 40 hours.

I think however they will take on Part Timers to do just deliveries and they could be on contracts ranging from 5 to 20 hours a week, or even casual (as and when needed). I also think that new staff will be on a lot worse pay rate then what we are and not as good T&Cs we we get now (and there not that good to start with).

+1 There is always a lot of doom and gloom on this forum but this one is an almost certainty. With the moves to make the business leaner it would seem that the amount of full time staff will actually be reduced quite a lot in the future. That being said if you were desperate to work here there is normally enough overtime available to make a part time contract upto 30-40 hours a week. I think if you came here expecting RM to be your dream job though you would be massively disapointed! RM is no longer a government service it is a soon to be privatised business and not a great place to work at all.

seriously op, look for another job. working for rm is s**t, simple as.......if you really are serious, I'll get back to you as soon as i get a new job, you can gladly have mine....

Seriously mate. Dream job? It's become a nightmare in recent years. My advice is look at other options (if there is any with all the corporate slash and burn going on in the country)
Royal Mail, once an exemplary model of punctuality,public service and dedication, now tragically reduced to a slave driving, haven't got a clue motorway pile-up!!!

Mine too, looks to be over. Started as Xmas casual and have really enjoyed it all. Like the team, the managers seem okay where I am and have now got an eight hour contract but working 40+ hrs each week.

But last couple of weeks my knee has been getting bad and yesterday Dr diagnosed a damaged ligament. Said I need to stay off the leg for at least a week. So that means I won't get paid anything except my eight hours and I can't afford that. If this were a one-off then I might grit my teeth and see it out, but as I understand it, these short hours, twelve week rolling contracts are here to stay and nothing more certain is going to come my way :-(
