Killing off.

Post by Eric Cantona »

We have been told at our office from April 2nd when we kill off the mail its up to us now to strike a crayon over the address and ring the return address on the back of the envelope and place it in the appropriate box for returns. Another time consuming issue. As if we haven't got enough to do.
Anyone else doing this?

All my office done this on Thursday and Friday and lo and behold the killing off came back in their coded boxes today with the killing off stickers still on. One of the mouthy ones said he was going to put the killing off sticker over the address that way it would blank the machine from reading it and coming back into his box. some said that's not allowed, waste of friggin space...

We just put a killing off sticker on it and threw it in a box and one of the late drivers done the rest as his duty.

I know some offices have been doing it themselves for a long time, the offices I've worked at involve the RLE staff doing them.

And if putting a sticker over the address stops it coming back the next day, how does he think the mail comes back to his round after customers have put stickers over their own address?! Plonker lol

Also, if you saw how some of the stuff gets killed off, I'm not sure some staff have the mental capacity to use a blue crayon... :nervous

Who cares, they can put all the work they want onto us but at the end of the day we can only do what we have time to do.

Might it be the orange bar code dots, rather than the address, that the machines are reading again ?
If so place the red sticker partially over the orange dots. :Very Happy
Not having been told otherwise, I stick the red label over the address if it's a window envelope, but otherwise blue crayon over the address and put the red label alongside it. Am I right with this ?

You should never put the red sticker over the address. If RTS are faced correctly ie all with the return address on the back of the envolope facing forwards, then they should not come back in your mech trays. Letters with the RTS address on the front should be trayed separately for manual sorting.
