Scanning of barcodes

So many questions on the scanner gun and duplicate scanning to be done. Is there technology out there that is better than what RML currently use? Seems odd to a mere RLE noivice such as myself.

If they're anything like the ones we use indoors, then yes, there's MUCH better ones on the market. Ours are over 10 years old!

Ours both the batteries and guns are knackered. I always put them back in the cradle when not actually scanning anything to have some hope of the batteries lasting for the shift. What happened to the newer guns that all MCs were supposed to be getting?

I wish I knew! We have a supply of (mostly knackered) spare batteries for them. We even got a handful of new batteries, not that long ago. But nowhere near enough to go round. If you get one of the new ones, they last the shift. But more often, we need to change them 3 or more times per shift. So much for efficiency, eh?

With the state of the guns and batteries in RLEs it's going to reach a stage when bags going between MCs and from MCs to DOs will not have DUNs in on a regular basis

Surely they can at least get you some new batteries, they're not that expensive. Admittedly, we didn't get enough to go 'round. But at least those who're lucky enough to get their hands on one, have a much easier time. As for the knackered guns. I don't know what they could do about that. I seriously doubt that they're still on the market, so they'd presumably have to try repairing them.

For new batteries to really be any good you need two per gun so that you have one set of batteries recharging in the cradles and one set in the guns in use otherwise they never get the chance to charge up properly.

That's exactly what we used to have. 2 batteries per gun, the spares charging in the cage. But they weren't getting enough time to charge (because they're knackered), so they got a few new ones for us. Sadly, not enough to have one per gun, so it's just a case of being lucky enough to have one on your gun at the start. Or getting your hands on a good battery, when yours needs changing. Otherwise, you're stuck with the dodgy batteries.

Do you have enough spare guns, to just get another?

If your lucky you'll manage to find a battery with charge on it before the gun loses the data otherwise it's a case of putting a "broken equipement" (f****d and knackered) note in the bag
