Pay Rate different for Part-Timers?

My pay rate as a postman is set at the standard gross £375.16 equating to £9.37 an hour, but as I am on a part-time 25 hour contract, my basic is only £221.60 gross, equating to £8.86 an hour. Why?

In two words... Delivery Supplement.
The delivery supplement is £20.60 for full-time or 51p/hour if you like.
£8.86+51=£9.37....simples.

It does if you are part-time and work over your contracted hours.
The delivery supplement then becomes part of your hourly rate until you reach 40 hours.

i thought part time delivery supplement was 15 pound so if your part time and you do 40 hrs with overtime do you get £20.60 supplement ????

A full-timer working 40 hours will be paid £354.50+£20.60(del supp).

So yes a part-timer working 40 hrs will receive the full delivery supplement but it won't show up on your pay slip as delivery supplement....just as a higher overtime rate.

fishtank is spot on.

The confusion for part timers arises from the pay rate at the top of the wage slip which quotes £375.16 - this is your full time equivelent pay rate including the delivery supplement, thus the hourly rate is £9.37.

It isn't broken down within that so when you look at your own pay slip and breaks down to:

Delivery supplement of £12.88
Basic pay of £221.60

you start to wonder, why doesn't this add up.

If you add the £12.88 to the £221.60 and divide by 25, your hourly rate works out at £9.3792 - which I believe is the same as the full time above.

Overtime also works as fishtank has said - you do get paid the same £9.37 up to 40hrs, so in effect if you're only part time on paper, but you work a 40hr week, you do get the full £20.60 delivery supplement (we all assumed at the beginning this wouldn't be the case, it caused loads of upset, but I suspect someone did put thought into this and realised if taken to tribunal, it would be deemed unfair)

Now all I need to do is figure out why my overtime ie put through at different rates from the above.

There is no overtime rate for a part-timer until they reach 40hrs...only normal pay(£8.86) plus the delivery supplement(51p).
After 40hrs you will receive SSPR for 10hrs then back down to a flat £8.86.

We had a thread about PT pay just after Xmas and it was only then that I discovered I get a better hourly rate for my 22.5-40 hours, than I do for "first 10 hours" overtime.

If a 30 hour person was to do 10 hours ovetime and get overtime rate than they would end up with more money than someone working 40 hours as contracted hours which could be deemed unfair.
