I believe that CCTVs can ONLY be used for security purposes! There seem to be a number of bosses, not just RM, that believe they can use them to monitor their workforce, Big Brother style. :no no
Anyone know a bit more about it? :hmmmm

yup perfectly legal for them to do it unfortunately however you must be informed they are using them for this purpose before they can use them "against you"

We only have them looking at the outside of the building, ramp, gate and yard mainly, just give em the finger now and again, if they've got time to sit and watch them all day it's what they deserve

perhaps those at the top are getting ready for managerless offices?

maybe moya and her cronies will run everything from the ivory tower.

WTL will be moya on the flat screen tv, attendance and conduct would be monitored with surveylance equipment.....

all a bit monty burns but who knows what the future holds

Agreed its legal but do RM DO IT????

I could be wrong, but i believe unless there is notices on the walls saying what they are using the cameras for, they cant use them for anything. They cant even bring them to court, if you were not informed of there presence in the first place. Also If a workplace has camereas to film employees they cant have microphones or if they have microphones they cant have camereas etc etc . It breeches EU Human rights laws

thats what i said, you have to be informed before hand, as for microphone and or just camera, its not against the human rights act unfortunately

Right was working today so managed to have a good look and think about the microphone issue and I can't see how they could via the cameras as the office is just too noisy for a start and also with the camera at one end how could a conversation be recorded at the other 'through' all the other people between? RM aint the CIA for some black OPS money no object get me the tech sorta company :confused

If RM had an issue where it believed that people were colluding in doing something wrong/criminal thats one thing but if I choose to tell a workmate (friend) that my granny's got cancer (she hasn't!) then thats a PRIVATE conversation and I'd expect it to stay that way!

Also I guess that the use of audio recording would be covered in you Contract Of Employment.

There is a difference between general security surveillance and Direct or Intrusive surveillance.
Where this surveillance is covert i.e. the subject of the surveillance
is unaware that it is taking place, then it must be authorised to ensure that it
is lawful. CCTV systems in the main will not be subject to this procedure as
they are 'overt' forms of surveillance. However where CCTV is used as part
of a pre-planned operation of surveillance then authorisation should be
obtained.
Direct surveillance is defined as surveillance undertaken "for the purposes of a specific investigation or
operation" and "in such a manner as is likely to result in the obtaining of
private information about a person."
Intrusive surveillance is surveillance of anything taking place on
residential premises or in a private vehicle that involves the presence of an
individual on the premises or in the vehicle or is carried out by means of a
surveillance device capable of providing information of the same quality
and detail as might be expected to be obtained from a device actually
present on the premises or in the house or vehicle.

Intrusive surveillance is seldom authorised outside of various law enforcement bodies...allegedly. :nervous
