A couple of years ago I got a transfer from one DO to another similar sized about 50 miles up the road. At the first place, all the rep had to do was call a meeting anytime during the morning and everyone would be in the canteen 5 minutes later, no complaints from management. Really handy for getting things discussed and seeing how everyone felt. And of course, near enough 100% attendance.
Completely different at my new place, the rare meetings that there are are held at some social club 2 miles away at about 4 o clock, with about a fifth of the workforce there. As a result, no one has a clue whats going off, and management walk all over us. When I say why don't we have these meetings in work time on work premises, people look at me like I've just dropped in from Mars.
Is there any official agreement on this, or is it all down to local little Hitlers calling the shots?

We have meetings at our place,our screws don't mind too much.
Must be a little hitler thing at your place and i know it's the same at others.
Also wouldn't it be easier to have it say 15/30mins before start time on the gate in the mornings?

we have starters at- 5am, 6am, 7.45am, 8am 8.30am and 9am.
we have the little hitler thing in too.

it is geting hard to have meeting now as there are so many different start times.we try to get the full times in the morning before they start allso now looking to get a p/t to be a deputy rep so we no what there issues are but the biggest problem is the wave of apathey at the moment

at our office when the managers finish there wtl meetings the staff stay in the canteen
then once the managers leave, we then start a union meeting the one thing we wont do is
hold a meeting on the shop floor, during industrial problems all meetings are held outside
the office.
but the most important point in this is that the reps keep the staff informed at all times.
