Re: bullys
Keep a diary of any incidents of bullying.
If you are going to make a case against someone it's best if you can show a pattern of bullying rather than a one off incident that can be swept under the carpet by a spineless, shitebag of a DOM.

Second the other poster who said make it official! Don't have any qualms about 'dobbing' folk like this in--they deserve to lose their jobs.

Re: bullys
Yeah bullying is pretty sad. Swearing at people, belittling them and telling them they are an idiot and talking crap is a pretty sad and tragic act.
Anyway Spoodoo I'd recommend this course of action if people are worried about loosing face. You need to observe an act of bullying and report it as a third person. Anyone in the workplace is perfectly entitled to report acts of bullying whether they happen to themselves or to someone else and they witness it. In many ways that makes a stronger case due to the impartiality of the witness. If you have 2 witnesses prepared to do this you will have a very strong case.
So if someone gets picked on there, make a note of it occurring a few times with dates, what was said to who and what was said back (if anything) then get a Bullying and Harrasment form. You can get them from a rep, a manager or call RM and they will send you one out.
They guy will be interviewed and probablly get a strong warning if it's the first reported offence and that should be enough to put an end to his reign of terror. He shouldn't be told who has made the complaints so no one will have any repercussions. If they do complain again and he will be shown the door without question. They really will and do take a hard line on repeat offenses in my experience.

Re: bullys
Make sure you have witnesses who will back your story - Its surprising how many people `didnt see anything` - cowards(or his mates).
If you succeed and he is sacked or transferred, posties will come out of the woodwork and tell you what he did to them - `I didnt do anything about it cos I get on with him all right`(cowards excuse).
I imagine it must be a magic moment to get the hardest man in the office (the office bully) sacked even though his mates never talk to you again - not that I have ever done such a thing

Re: bullys
I was brought up in a very rough area, had to learn quickly that you need to stand up to bullies. If you are weak you become an easy target, and the bully will target you even more either physically or mentally, usually to impress those around him who pretend to be his mates but who deep down despise him. Stand up to him. Is he mad enough to come after you outside work? If yes you'll need some good mates behind you, quick phone call etc. If he is so mentally disturbed to do this you really need to get Dom, reps involved etc. Remember you are the victim.

Re: bullys
My first instinct regards bullys is get them sacked and sod them, but if you think this one has problems and could become a normal workmate, then tell a competent union rep(not his mate though) or a manager(not his mate though) that your willing to s**t on him if he doesnt change his ways - get a B&H form off them when you do this and hopfully the message will get through - if not stick the complaint in asap (pointing out that you informed union and management of the problem and nothing happened).

The number you need mate is 0800 58 74777 24/7 365 days they really will help.give advice/support.its confidential, helped a friend of mine recently.found them to be friendly, helpful and understanding as well as professional, give them a try mate.
Bullying is evil but can be stopped if you stay strong and confident and it seems to me that you are,the helpine can help give you the means to suceed.
Bullies are weak individuals who bully to cover their own inadequacies.
The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.
