dead mail

Post by moanalot »

A colleague of mind pointed out the fact that TNT,DHL and other compeditors pay the Royal mail around 13p a letter for us to deliver it for them.
He also pointed out that on a lot of the firm deliveries where firms have gone away or gone bust!We still dead mail their letter and on most occessions returned them to sender at no extra cost to our compeditors!
Surely if we were to return them straight back to the likes of TNTand DHL the Royal mail would save a vast amount of money!(somewhere in the region of 14p a letter(START USING YOUR BRAIN LEIGHTON IT'S THERE SOMEWHERE!)

We are also delivering letters that are forwarded in instances whereby someone moves houses and asks the new occupier to forward their mail on. The new occupiers often just write the new address on the envelope and we deliver. During last week I kept a record of the number of such letters I had to deliver to one address on my delivery. A third of them originated from TNT UK Mail and others. I assume I have no choice but to deliver them as (newly) addressed.

In the City (London) we are often given mail that has been delivered to the wrong address by Citypost, DX, DHL , Businesspost, and smaller couriers. I usually refuse to accept them, saying they have not been delivered by Royal Mail, and that they should be given back to the courier who delivered them. When I do accept them I write "Delivered by Courier to wrong address" on them. I also put a 'T' on them, and write "For surcharge - no postage paid". But I doubt if they do get surcharged because a lot of the newer staff (and certainly the Agency Staff) have not had any training, and don't know what a surcharge is.
I know that our delivery staff sometimes misdeliver mail as well, but at least it is picked up for redelivery by the collection drivers, unlike the courier firms who don't seem to bother.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
