HISTORY
My shift doesnt start til after the office is closed on xmas & ny eve. So I've always come in early these days to help wherever rep (f/t driver) sees fit. Every year i've been driving i have always been the last man to finish (doing packets & then the last collection). Only found out this year the lazy barstool f/t drivers are still paid for their evening collection shift (on SA) even tho they all finished early and a good few hours before me (all because i've been coming in early to help them do their jobs). I do a complete sweep inside of sweeping my section a couple of times. If we all sweeped our own sections once we'd all finish earlier.
This year wee girl had an doctors appointment on New Years Eve. Gave dom months notice & reminded again with 2 weeks notice & then again the day before. He had said its was ok for me to finish early. But on the day he changed his mind cos two guys called in sick and also none of the f/t drivers would work for the hours they are paid for.
dom phones when out on walk.
dom: u need to come back after the appointment to complete walk
me: why?
dom: cant find anyone else to do 1 hr worth that you left behind.
me: I asked and you said not to come back after appointment. I've arranged to be somewhere else. Wont have time to come back & finish it & make to other place.
dom: when & where do u need to be?
me: xxxx place at 14:30.
dom: come back & finish the walk. I’ll book you a taxi.
me: it’ll cost £45 on taxi to get there
dom: I’ll book u a taxi to get u there
me: still be late
dom: u have to come back. ur paid for 5 hrs todays.... blah blah blah.
This call lasted about 10 min in total. I’ve excluded most of the repetition as dom would blab and ask if I’m coming back. By this time already had told him ‘no’ so wasn’t going to answer the stupid question again. He was greeted with silence.
me: <silence>
dom: are u there?
me: no
dom: what?
me: <silence>
dom: do u think its fair for us to take a full walk out and then come back & take out part of another. i dont.
me: <have a turn of lapsing & ffs there are 4 of u's doing 1 walk...more silence>
<i later found out the 4 of them didnt even take out the whole walk & zero packets>
dom: hello?
me: hi
dom: what?
me: you can get one of the f/t drivers on SA to do it. They are paid till 17:00
dom: <silence>
me: hello?
dom: I don’t think fair for us to take a full walk out and then come back & take out part of another walk. If you don’t do it, I’ll have to write a report to my superiors and explain why mail was not delivered when u are paid for 5 hrs and only worked 3 hrs. I’ve exausted every resource available. As an RM operational manager I cant blah blah blah.
me: have you asked the f/t drivers on SA to do it. They are paid till 17:00
dom: <silence>
me: you started writing your report yet?
dom: are u going to come back?
me: <silence>
dom: ok, I’ll see what I can do.
me: ok bye bye.
I suppose thats how to cut off early. After new year he even thanked me for coming in early to take part of the walk out.
