General safety on walks!

Hey everyone, I started the job a few days ago and shadowed a postie on his walks, from 2mo I have my own and today went up to scout it out and get a feel of it. On doing so I realised it was a pretty rough area and just wondered if any experienced posties have ever had trouble on there walks?! The area is full of yobs in groups just loitering etc and don't really want to be getting hassle! Anyone ever had such dealings? Thanks

If you're delivering to a rough area chances are you'll get a lot of dole scroungers coming up to you and asking you for their mail when you are streets away from their houses. Tell them in no uncertain terms that it is against the law to hand out mail in the street and you could lose your job if you do. Generally though, I don;t get much hassle from the low life on my duty, so it probbaly won't be as bad as you think. As for the job itself..well, that is a different matter entirely

Walk the walk and you'll be fine.
Look nervous and they will be all over you.
Look as if you know what you are about,you know they are there but don't particularly give a s**t.

I doubt very very much no matter how rough an area it is you'll encounter groups of yobs/guys/teens , in 11yrs i've never seen a group of guys hanging about. Any who do hang about don't tend to start hanging about till later in the evening. So unless you're out delivering mail at 8pm or past i doubt you'll have any trouble with groups of people . :)

Probably won't be as bad as you think just like the others are saying.
And be prepared to be asked where your cat is numerous times,and you will also have an automatic name change to Pat.

But statistically speaking the most likely place that you will get mugged at, is in the office and by your manager. Take care ,these 'in house muggings' occur on a daily basis

You should be fine, some of my walk is known as convict alley---but mostly the neds leave you alone!

Best advice ,listen to guys who have done that round recently,and the driver for that area ,you should be all right.

Well I use to, now its just "afternoon"

If you do this they tend to think you'll be able to spot them on Crimewatch and don't bother you.

They generally won't bother you too much cos chances are you'll be delivering their giros once a fortnight.
Once you get to recognise them the great answer when they try and get smart with you is always " remember i know you name and address", tends to work like a charm.

I took the tablets...................don't know what they were for but the wife said they would do me good........they made me a harder....
