Buy Down Hours Help

Hi all

I'm buying down hours from 40hrs to 30hrs and I've been offered £3450, I've worked for royal mail for 11 years.
I wanted to know if anyone knows what method is used for working out the amount of lump sum you get. I have been told by a manager from a different office that its your basic pay multiplied by 2 years. If that is true I should be getting £8496 not £3450.
Does anyone know if this it true or not, or if my manager has just worked the payment out wrong?

Your reducing your hours by a quarter, effectively taking a quarter of evr. The amount looks about right to me, for your years.
But you should get the actual quote in a letter from HR Services, explaining it in more detail. If you change your mind you don`t have to sign it and someone else will be offered it.
One other thing - have you got your new 30hr duty agreed, if you take it ? Otherwise you could end up with a crap job.

Nothing has been said about changing duty due to the buy down. I just assumed I would be staying on my round and just starting later.

i would look in to what job they will offer you once you hours are cut because it might not be the one you are doing now some one in are office got buy down of hours and is now spare and hates it and what they are offering sounds right good luck

I wouldn`t assume anything. Ask the manager how your duty could be changed to 30hrs. If you have the prep taken off you don`t finish any earlier and you can`t rely on prep always being done for when you get in. Better to sort you own round and then hand over enough of it to others (a set in stone amount) so you finish on time. If the manager says no way then you know your heading for a fall.

I had just under £4900 in 2007 for 40 to 30 hours with 16 years service.

I was dutieless for a while but so what I still came into work each day sorted and delivered mail went home again and got paid at the end of each week. I did standard PT hours of attendance doing IPS and then delivering part of a new housing estate. Few months later a PT left and I was placed on the vacant duty and a few months later the revison came along which put in enought PT duties for the amount of PT staff so I picked up a duty I wanted in a repick

You'll want to double check that me thinks,also please be careful what your new contract (if you get one to sign) says,there have been posties put on rolling contracts before with buy downs without their knowledge!
