The Attendance Procedure states

MINIMUM NATIONAL ATTENDANCE STANDARDS

Stage 1: 4 absences or 14 days in a 12 month period

Stage 2: 2 absences or 10 days in any 6 month period during the next 12 months

Stage 3: 2 absences or 10 days in any 6 month period during the next 12 months

I had 4 months off starting in December 2009 & I returned to work in April this year, obviously I was given a stage 1 upon my return to work in April, I have recently been unwell but have contuined to work, my question is….. If I take any time off sick between now and April 2011 will that automatically trigger a stage 2 warning & therefore the stage 2 that will defiantly be issued ?

Should the 2nd Line state Stage 2: 2 absences or 10 days in any 6 month period during the next 12 months (from the date of when the 1st Stage was issued) ???

Sorry, can't answer your question but just wanted to say that I've never understood it and get the feeling thats how my DIM likes it!

no as long as it is not more then 7 days in one absent you could say have 2 absent one of 4 day and another of 6 but if you can work you would be better to do so in this climate as they give out stages for fun so watch what you do hope that helps

NO, he can't.

If the stage 1 was issued on, say, 1st May 2010, he cannot have more than one absence before 1st May 2011, because we are now in December 2010, and a sickie now followed by a sickie of ANY duration before 1st May 2011 would fall foul of the "2 absences in any 6 month period" part of the rule.

(December, January, February, March, April ... = 5 months)

Furthermore, even if someone already on a Stage 1 has two absences that are separated by more than six months, they must not exceed 9 days in total. 10 Days (or more) is the figure that gets you a Stage 2 !!!

Is it a rolling 12 months or static one if that makes sense i.e. in the worst case scenario do you have to go 23months and 30 days to clear all applicable sickness from your record?

Actually to put it better do you have to have a full 12 months from you last sickness to clear your record?

If you are on a stage and you do not trigger the next stage within 12 months from the issue date you will revert back to the previous stage or if your attendance warrants it you will be taken off the stage procedure altogether.
A point to remember is this...your sick absence never completely disappears from your record and can come back to bite you on the ass if you hit the dreaded stage 3.

My understanding is:

You've had a stage 1 issued April 2010.

If you have
1. two absences in any 6 month period before april 2011 or
2. a single absence of 10 days or more before april 2011
you may be issued a stage 2. This all depends if your dom is a real manager or just a rm manager.

I believe you should be ok with one absence of up to 9 days if you have not had one in the last 6 months (and dont 'plan' for one until after April 2011).
