Walk Risk Assessment

Can anyone tell me how walks are risk assessed during this bad weather. Our office has been out every day even though it was in my opinion extremely dangerous due to hard packed snow and ice.

our office was the same ... mostly ice though .... we've been told that royal mail want to take the weight of our shoulders ... but what were we told today ... you can't take your bike you will have to walk round (our office has only 2 high capacity trolleys) your delivery .... now as royal mail's deemed it unsafe to use bikes on our delivery walk's and health and safety does not want us to have to humph mail on round ... surely that today was a case of bending the rules to suit their own warped agenda

Managers cannot be expected to risk assess every part of every walk and so can only give a general guide from what he
can see outside your office. It is up to you to risk assess each street & each DP and bring back any mail for any DP that you feel
would be too dangerous to deliver to.
I think the change in the law is affecting some managers, although not yours. Before if anyone became a cropper and decided
to sue RM for negligence or breaking H&S rules it was the company as a whole that was sued. Now it is individual managers
and I think that is why there has been more offices being told not to go out on delivery.
Another thing that should be taken into consideration is any police reports. If police tell you not to venture on the roads
and management send you out then they could be in deep sh*t if anything happens to any staff.




Edit: Management SHOULD SUPPORT YOUR DECISION in bringing mail back because of H&S

TBH our DOM has completely changed his attitude this year,last year it was "I've been out in my car & its fine" now its "If you have any safety issues on your walks,ring us & come back in,H&S is a priority over deliveries".

What he said Although the conditions in my area aren't too bad I've still brought back mail from where I thought is too dangerous to deliver to, the DOM just wanted to know how many letters so that he could fill in a report about it.
Use your common sense but don't take the piss (like some I know) because it annoys people and will come back to bit you on the arse.

There's only one person i trust to risk asses my walk....it's my health and my safety.
I wouldn't put that in the hands of someone who has trouble drinking coffee without spilling it down his polyester matalan shirt-tie combo.
