Revision Volunteer Wanted

Yes in my office we are asked today if anyone wanted to volunteer to be the CWU input into a Delivery methods revision due to be implemented on November 4th.

Yes thats just over 2 weeks away!

Senior management have concluded that a full resign of over 120 staff should take just 3 days.

Questions were aked about training, risk assesment and safety but no one had any answers. Royal Mail are are still in the dark regarding overnight parking and the number of driving volunteers even though they have thier 50 vans ready to go.

The average duty according to Georoute is to be just under 1000 drops or or 3.5 hours. Tests show the walks are nearer 5 hours. Senior managers are refusing to revisit the walks saying if theyre 5 hour then they are 5 hours. No info was given about duty structures to make the hours fit the day.

Area rep asked for a volunteer to oversee the revision but no one wanted to be the fall guy for Royal Mails mistakes as they wouldnt be able to back out once commited.

Its a shambolic debacle down here in my office. An absolute mess.

Of course its shambolic everything management touches (from lino to top) turns out rubbish. There are many words to describe management but they really are thick. Somebody, somewhere reads a paper that says such and such helped my business and even though that business has nothing to do with RM, management get all excited and ram it into our business model as fast as possible. Then months later make some s**t up as to "how market conditions have changed", and get excited about something else.

If it wasnt for the common sense of the foot soldier this company would have died years ago.

1000 drops in 3.5 hours?,theres one like that in my office but theres a lot of communal letterbox tenements on that
duty,that delivery was made on pegasus so unless those 1000 drops are to communal letterboxes then it dosnt take
a genius to figure out that its not gonna work.

Geo route is no miracle tool but if there is proper info input and overseen by a rep whose on the ball then it should knock
out a reasonable delivery(thats if you ignore that the union negotiated very nippy walking speeds),which suggests that the above planning has been f****d up by management

Does anybody know the time given on Geo route at each letterbox?because it used to be 7 secs on pegasus so if they have reduced that time it could give some scary results,dingo on here did mention that royal mail wanted the time at letterbox reduced so is there an agreed time at letterbox to be used in Geo route?

Try stuffing flimsy D2Ds in some of these new letter boxes in seven seconds. You need a battering ram to get through the brushes.

Yes I agree. For instance who decided to buy all these vans, before they were ready to be put to use? Any investment (and a huge investment by all accounts) should be put to work the day after purchase, not left rusting in a field or on a dock front for all these months.

Wouldn't it be interesting to trace it all back from the vans to the team who spent many long and well rewarded hours producing the plan to implement them into our work procedures, without ever considering whether this one ‘master plan’ would fit all.

This of course could all be academic now that we are on the threshold of being launched into the private sector.

A bet a team is already being put together to offload a huge number of 2nd hand vans, low mileage with a colour scheme and logo that will shortly belong to another era. Maybe the new owner(s) will have us a self-employed with a van thrown into the pot as part of our new contract of employment.

it's not 8 mate , more like 17 or 23 can't remmber which but defo not only 8, but I agree it's still not enough.

We had one of those but when the figures weren't to their liking they stopped it (we where getting 40-70 attendence calls per day so that might have been the reason).

I got the powerpoint presentation which says it's 17 for 450 calls i'll put it on her as soon as I can. It's not 8 mate.

8 is for existing walks, not the delivery methods revision.

What system then?? I guessed you meant the geo route. As geo route gives you 17 attendance calls for 450 drops, well thats what I have been told anyway. But the same in my office when counts were done attendance calls went from 20 up 120 , yes 120 for one walk.

If there only using 8 calls then there saying the walks will be done quicker than they actually can. when they do the new duties they will munipulate the times based on what was given when they timed the 8 attendance calls, don't trust the bast@rds!!
