Weights are DOWN !!!!

Post by RedBagMan »

This time last year - sat behind a computer screen just before my redundancy - I weighed 11 stone (BMI 19.28 ... healthy)

Five months of dole saw me down to 10 stone 7 pounds (BMI 18.40 ... underweight)

Just over three months into life on the road/pavement - I'm at 9 stone 13 pounds (BMI 17.40 ... underweight)

I'm 6 foot 3 inches (inside leg only 32" mind :chuckle )

Yet ... Mrs RedBag says I've never looked as healthy and stress-free as I do now ...

Where am I going wrong ??

Any tips for some "crash weight gain" ??

How did you lose weight being off work?!

I've only been off since July and put on 2kg already  The bad thing is, that that's more than 2kg of fat, because my muscles have disappeared and the fat has taken its place.

Start eating in a Quadrant canteen, plenty of stuff there to make you put weight on.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

If you're a full timer grab the take aways,if you're a part timer, eat more bread.

Joke my fellow part timer buddies,a joke.

This is quite a common scenario for those who have recently joined the RM. You experience weight loss and then gradually put the weight back on as your body puts on additional muscle to cope with the additional exercise that the job entails.Interestingly posties who become drivers, PHG or are off for extented periods are prone to put on considerable amounts of weight.
I've measured the amount of calories that I burn on mixed walk ( front doors, flats , tower blocks) over a couple of weeks and the average calorific burn was about 300 calories an hour. This means that you are burning approx a 1000 calories on a 3.5 hour walk, this on top of your body needs just to survive approx 1665 calories (based on your height and weight given). In order to gain weight you will need to eat/drink at least 3000 calories a day to put on any meaningful amount of weight. ( please make sure this is a balanced not just crap!)
If you are worried about your weight loss you should go to your doctor and talk about it. Especially if you have found yourself having bouts of diarrhoea or constipation. Otherwise enjoy it!. You'll probably never be fitter and no-one loves fatty ( not really !)

That's true... after being off work or on driving/RLE duties for a few weeks, the weight starts to pile on but then, as my body gets used to not needing so many calories, I start to not feel the "need" to eat as much. Then my weight levels out at being a fatty.

Then, when I get back on delivery, it drops off again (eventually).
