Missorts on Delivery

Can anyone advise me of the correct procedure for dealing with missorts in the frame when your on delivery ? Although as a part timer I have never received a minutes training a full timer did advise me early doors that if I came across a letter that was miles out of sequence I didnt have to deliver it. Sometimes its like a blind man has thrown out the walk and there are loads of these items. What I generally do is return them back to the office after the walk and they go next day. Similarly if I come across an address with no access I bundle the letters up, take them back and endorse and initial with date and state no access..If I was a full timer throwing my own walk out I would certainly be inclined to take responsibility for my own mistakes and sort it on the walk regardless of time..In my view though,,,like everything else in RM my commitment is pro rata

Every office seems to have a different policy on this. you have to speak to your manager,and ask him what the proceedure is, and make sure someone else is there with you
so your back is covered. The general rule of thumb is if you have time at the end of the walk, you go back and deliver, but any item that is brought back to the office should be endorsed with the reason for non-delivery.

I always pouch them back endorsed.They might have a redirection that has not been checked if it was missorted in the frame.

P/T staff rely on their F/T colleagues to do the job and frankly some don't give a f**k.
Although the textbook advice is go back if you have time - Bolton is correct in pointing out that if the mail has been missorted in the frame it can't have been properly checked for missorts so should be returned to the DO.
It might be a good idea to show a manager the number of missorts because it may simply be a matter of ensuring the right people are prepping the right frames.

Thanks for that..I think the general rule in our office is they dont give a f@@K unless they are having an audit !! I do try and deliver them if I happen to be passing near that point at some point on the walk. Also if I didnt deliver every letter that was slightly out id be taking half the fooking walk back !
I dont really fancy pointing other peeps mistakes out to the lino though and as im on a different walk nearly every week it would be like im trying to drop people in it,,Thanks for everyones comments though,,Ill stick to the book !!

I got told if you find a missort for a road you haven't been to yet on the walk then deliver it later but if you find a missort for somewhere you have already delivered to then provided you have time deliver it at the end if not return it to the office and endorse it.

A while back I found some rolls/sheets of old Royal Mail stickers, one was a red and yellow sticker that was for endorsing items where you couldn't gain access to buildings such as flats after the trades was off. Anyone remember these or know if they are still available? They have a p*** code on them, I'll make a note of it on Monday.

We were told by a lino a couple of years ago that if you prepped the walk you have to deliver ALL mis-sorts. If somebody else preped the walk you endorse the mis-sorts and return them, the lino will then give the guy who prepped the walk an arse kicking.
I asked "OK if I prep my walk, deliver it and towards the end find a mis-sort for an address near the beginning will I be paid overtime if taking it back and delivering it causes me to go past my finish time?" He said NO so I asked why should I work over for free? He said it's your mistake, you make it right. I said well that's what it is, a genuine mistake. Why would you expect me to work over for free? He shut up then so we didn't get an answer.

I'm a part-timer (i use that term lightly!), and like you my walk is also prepped by a full timer. I will stick any missorts for later on in my walk in my pouch and deliver them when i get to the address...if i remember them, they are by no means priority! If i have already delivered to the address of the missort there's no chance of it getting delivered that day, not even if it's only a short distance away! There's nothing more annoying than going back on yourself, especially if you have to frequently do it to pick up bags at a drop point. It feels so counter-productive, plus it's time consuming. The only time i will go back is on the rare occasion i forget about a special or a recorded is missorted. At the end of the day i nearly always have what i call a "s**t pile", which consists purely of missorts, most for my walk and some for other parts of the country that managed to sneak into my frame! They end up in the nearest post box and more often than not they greet me the next day!

I don't get paid enough to go out of my way to rectify the mistakes of others, I'm not lazy but i don't see why i should put in the extra effort when whoever prepped my walk couldn't give a crap! I'm glad you brought this up because it's another annoying aspect of the part timer's job that is often overlooked by full-timers. I've lost count of the number of heavy flats i've had to cart around because of someone else's mistake. I swear it seems like Stevie Wonder preps my walk some days...
