One Year Anniversary

Post by Exorcist »

It is exactly one year tomorrow since i joined Royal Mail so i thought i would pass on a few observations and ask a few questions.
1/ I am on a 22 1/2 hour contract but i dont think i have ever worked less than 25hours or would not complete my rounds everyday
and i am wondering what will happen when the bikes go and our rounds are longer, will RM be happy to pay me lots of overtime ??.
2/ The bloody uniform is a joke,i am still waiting for some bits that i ordered 6 months ago and my boots fell to pieces after 2 months.
3/ How hard can it be to produce waterproof mail bags ?
4/ why is my line manager such a bloody jobsworth.
5/ Why have i never been approached about joining the union ?
6/ The new junk mail payment is a joke. Why do i only get £10.69 a week for throwing up and delivering exactly the same as the full timers who get £20 ?.
7/ When will i finally get a round of my own and not have to do a different one every bloody day.
8/ What is it about Jack Russell Terriers that makes them want to bite me ?.

For all the problems i am enjoying the job but i fear for the future of Royal Mail. The new delivery systems (vans & trolleys) will make the job even more difficult
than it already is and the customers to whom we deliver will not be happy when we start turning up with their mail at 4pm.

1/ No surprise there and lots of overtime to come.
2/ Yes, we've all had the same.
3/ Easy, but they might cost a bit more.
4/ Many of them are.
5/ Use your initiative here. :Very Happy
6/ It is not a "junk mail payment" and part timers are only due pro-rata payments.
7/ When you apply for an unpopular walk that nobody else wants. :Very Happy
8/ The taste of your flesh. :Very Happy

1. Do you book at least two and a half hours' worth of overtime every week? If not, then no, Royal Mail will not be happy to pay you lots of overtime as you are currently working for free of your own volition.

2. Yes, the uniform is a joke, the current fleece is a low budget, furry sweetie wrapper with a zip that jams more often than a high school band on Speed.

3. Too hard for RM, it seems. Let's just be thankful RM aren't required to make something more important leak-proof, like nuclear subs (dry seamen), condoms (wet semen), and the roof for the Emirates Stadium (David Seaman). :dance

4. why is my line manager such a bloody jobsworth? Becuase the DOM won't stop punching him. Badumtish. I'll be here all week, folks. :d'oh!

5. I have no idea. When I joined RM, the office rep made a point of interrupting our induction with the balance of staff manager to tell us that he wanted to have a chat to tell us about the union. Obviously your rep had other things on his mind. :cuppa

6. Haven't you heard? D2D is now an official part of workload (so what was it before?), and snice you are part time it is paid pro rata. The DOM's wife is pro rata - she only goes on the game when he is out of the house. :left:

7. After four years I'm still 'spare', but now and again I land on the same duty for a while, which is nice. After a bit I get bored, though, and hanker for the open road, a bit like David Coverdale in the video for Whitesnake's epic 80's tour de force, "Here I go again".

8. They are vicious little bastards aren't they? I had one jump up and bite my fleece around the chest area, and it was just hanging there, like a wingless demented bat, for a few seconds. :evil/mad
