After 25% of people saying they had been bullied or harassed in our latest have your say survey we are now also being shown the video 'with friends like these'. What I dont get is that when you complain about management bullying as 90% of it is in our office you get shown a video about postmen bullying eachother. No mention is made about the possibility of a manager bullying a member of staff almost like the situation would never arise. If Royal Mail could just take that step to admit that it is mostly a management problem they would have saved the company hundreds of millions of pounds over the last decade. Just to acknowledge that some managers may get their kicks out of bullying the staff, and that some managers bully other managers, in the video would create a huge change in our workplace in that someone had actually broken the taboo. It seems to me that Royal Mail cannot simply believe that managers could be involved in bullying in any way. I think they are cracking slowly though, coming up with weak defences like "when a manager asks you to go to another part of the office this is not bullying", yes, thats right, a child would know that. Perhaps their current fashion for seeking to justify every management behaviour with clever spin or waiting a while then quietly sweeping it under the carpet will land them in hot water.
