The beginning of the end RIP royal mail
manager announced today that a number of mail centres are closing in NE region, delivery offices will be next, what do you think?

Well the CWU said this was a good deal and there was no plan B. They said Royal Mail where in serious trouble but the company made 400 million this year so you can make things out yourself who is to blame. Billy and Dave the two biggest w*****s in the UK.

RM have a plan! (my best guess from what we have seen in the south)
70 mail centres will be reduced to about 30 . the current thinking is two into one/ three into one.
Oxford and Swindon now under one roof Gloucester is probably going to be absorbed in there as well one day .
give it a year or two.
nowhere is safe and theres seems to be no limit to how far RM will truck local mail
out of its locality in order save money.
I wouldn't fault that aim if didn't believe service will suffer as a result.
Its also true that you mail "egg"s are invariably in fewer baskets so a holdup at a mail centre
or on the motorway affects the mail in another county!

MC's are going to get mullered.
DO's have already started to merge,that will carry on.
The savings in all this is immense.
There will be less bricks and mortar and less bills to pay.
There will be less of us and less wages to pay.
It's not RIP RM,it's how big is the 'dividend' this year RM.
Oh and there's a service we give apparently........

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The MC "rationalization" plan was well documented long ago.
The fine detail wasn't there but if you read the Hooper Report it talks about cutting the number of MC's to 42 (I think)
It also shows the figures for other countries where the cuts were even more savage.
I don't think anyone who works in a MC could have been ignorant of these plans.
It isn't as if they got a yes vote and then decided to start shutting Mail Centres. This was decided long ago and was clearly documented.

Ive not read the hooper report in full but ill take your word that its quoted 42.
the Hooper report is a bit dated as it was compiled in 2008.
also it was not written by royal mail but as an independent study .
How independent can such a study can be when rm is government owned and they hired Hooper is debatable
but i digress..
we cant dismiss the Hooper report as unimportant as the government quote it as supporting privatization.
so it clearly has had some influence.
but the pace of change seems to be increasing and the hiring of a McGregor style hatchet woman isnt going to slow it.
my figure is grim yours is less grim so I hope your right but i wouldn't want to work in a mail centre right now if theres another one
within say 30 miles.

Down stream access is partly to blame for royal mails down falls.
But to take a break from the pension scheme was a big mistake, and now everyone is paying for it by making cuts across the board. There will be more cuts in the near future, and when the 3 year deal runs out, expect more strikes as well. A grim reality but many will not like.
