It may just be the way things are coming out from this agreement but it seems to me that there is a very divisive attitude throughout dealings with the union in its many roles.
Full time and Part Time members have been discriminated one from the other with the D2D issue.
Area and Div seem to be advocating a yes vote in opposition to the members wishes and seem oblivious to the obvious shortcomings of the agreement as they involve the general workforce.
Branch officials seem to be sitting on the fence by creating a divide between deliveries and MCs as though there are two workforces and there has been no attempt at any level to unify the membership in a a single way forward.
You hear people say united we stand, but in all my years as a member of a union I have never come across such a diverse attitude to what will become the single most important agreement for years to come, it needs to be right, it needs to be understood by everyone and the half truths and conflicting statements need to be fully explained.

Re: Divide and Conquer
Its definitely a fact that this agreement is showing the chasm that exists between the functions. In my branch it could not be more obvious. Whilst the official line is a no vote, which was arrived at democratically. The senior branch officers are actively advocating a yes vote because they belong to processing and distribution.
Divide and conquer does not come near describing the backlash this will ultimately create. In my unit alone at least a third of the members are prepared to resign from the CWU not only because of this absurd agreement but in disgust at the disrespectful way the branch has treated them.

This agreement is bad enough and god knows it deserves rejection but what has made it worse for me personally is the completely amoral, unethical sneaky underhand way it has been "sold" to the membership.
From"protecting full-time jobs" which it plainly doesn't on to "deal of the century" which it certainly isn't right through to cementing the unions position in the workplace which it definately won't because as any real rep will tell you the wording is far to weak to offer any real protection against an aggressive employer,it has been bullshit piled on top of more bullshit from day 1.
And now we have the final desperate argument.....there is no plan b.
Well if that is the case Billy,Dave,Bob and all the vastly overpaid and underworked at HQ should fall on their collective swords immediately.
If between them they can't come up with a plan b then it's hardly surprising plan a is so poor.
Is it divisive.....yes...but the real division is between those who work hard and those at the top who hardly work.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

I'm no gambler, but even I'd put money on that. This shoddy, shyte, utterly shameful deal, will be the final straw for many, and only the truly dense would blame them.steven100 wrote:As soon as the is deal goes through our royal mail phoneline will be busy asking for a cwu subs to be stopped.

Re: Divide and Conquer
I can't express how disappointed as a committed unionist I feel. The arrogance of a leadership that proposes what is clearly a very poor agreement and has the gall to put it to the membership as an only option and drag the various tiers of union hierarchy along on its coat tails leaving the reps at the sharp end to face the music.
Where on earth is the vision? Where is the innovation that a delivery model for the 21st century deserves? Where is the loyalty to a membership willing to support industrial action to be faced with a new hand in glove partnership with an employer that has bullied, harrassed and implemented change at will over the last 18 months and longer? To be told that there is to be a new understanding and trust - wtf - they aren't the ones on the front line.
After all that to be faced with "thats all she wrote" so vote YES is an absolute insult. Where are the advisers to the negotiators, where is the blueprint for the CWUs blueprint for change - it surely cannot have been this, that so closely follows RMs wish list that it could have been written by them.
It should now be a case of Bring me the head of someone.

Re: Divide and Conquer
Why would anyone need to divide and conquer, it seems to me, the drivers and the walkers, the P/T and F/T, outer london posties and the london posties all at each others throats, you need to be united before we can be divided, and united we don't seem to be.

Completely disintegrated is the phrase you're looking for. The Yes's have it.

Re: Divide and Conquer
So that makes it the 2010 DissAgreement then?
Mankind is so easy to divide that's why the politics of divide and rule work. 'We are kept down, because we hate' to quote the Manic Street Preachers. Essentially the corruption and greed at the top is mirrored by resentment and selfishness at the bottom. Society is unequal because we allow it to be, we are too busy fighting each other either in the play-park, pub or via loyalty at the football club to see the bigger picture. A very convienient situation.
DON'T BE FOOLED MEN, UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL - ITS THE TRUTH.
and football is an extention of the capitalists grand scheme to keep the masses divided and conquered.

Re: Divide and Conquer
Have to agree with Mitzi in my branch the secretary is also the area processing rep and the chair is also area distribution rep. Neither care one iota about deliveries and believe that this deal is great for them, hence they are both refusing to meet delivery members claiming it isnt cost effective. Whatever that means.mitzi wrote:Its definitely a fact that this agreement is showing the chasm that exists between the functions. In my branch it could not be more obvious. Its interesting to note the tories are talking about dealing with "vested interests" and yet our union which claims to be about fairness and equality have produced an agreement which is reliant on vested interests to become adopted. The huge changes that deliveries are facing whilst other functions are getting away scot free and are in fact profitting from have got to be deemed unfair and unequal.
My money is on Unite and RM being the winners in this game of divide and conquer.
