Time Off for dependent - Advice please

Post by islfor »

My daughter has been ill through the night, i have never had a day or two off using the ACAS agreed policy on Time Off for dependent.
according to this agreement im entitled to one or two days by the employer to take care of my sick child and if need to look for arrangements if sick longer. My wife always takes time off to look after child when sick. being in the year 2010 when equal rights are more favourable to workers i.e. equal pay & working conditions. I see it fair for me to have time off for a change.
What are the chances of RM giving me 1 or 2 days special leave with pay or try there luck at my misfortunate circumstances and try for me to take unpaid leave ?

Unfortunately "Time of for Dependants" as per the You Gov guidelines is not automatically paid. Royal Mail, unless it says otherwise in your contract, can put it down as unpaid leave.

Being paid for your time off

Your employer doesn't have to pay you for time off for dependants but they may choose to do so. You can check your contract of employment to see if there's a policy about this.
and here is a Union Flyer on it as well
Time_Off_for_Dependants.pdf
and the DTIs version(longer and more detailed)
