Parcels & Packets going through the roof

At our place parcels & packets are a joke, york after york after york, some packets been there since just after Xmas. With Stockport being closed down & moved to Manchester Macc get their last mail at about 9.45, & by the time you have prepped that & bundled up, there is only enough time to do your round never mind specials, tracked & Parcels, they are being left because nobody wants to do any on overtime, coz by the time you get back its mid afternoon & everyone's that knackered they don't want to do anymore. So the question is, how is a manager going to get all of them delivered plus every day there is more coming in & piled on top? its unreal how this job is getting worse, I am sure its on melt down?

In the short term the will probably do what they did at my place.
Bring in loads of managers to clear them.

Same at my office, got people coming in on Sunday to try and clear the packets. I reckon people have been sat at home during the snow going mad on the internet buying stuff.

Yep same at our DO.
York upon york overflowing with packets.Must be at least 500-600 just lying there. Many from the beginning of the year- we're talking about 1st class dated stuff here!!!.Not only that but its becoming a H&S issue what with all the yorks and packets lying about.
The drivers are actually delivering the packets a week in arrears e.g Mondays packets today,tuesday's tommorow etc. There just isn't enough bodies to do the work properly.
Seems there is a direct correlation with manager's bonuses and the size of the packet mountain at our DO. Must be that "modernisation" thing management keep banging on about.

Exactly the same in my office, manager is offering overtime to clear it all but people just dont have the energy anymore.

Think you lot all work in Dunfermline ,it's the same here 15 yorks of packets,no chance of clearing them any time soon,but as long as the Sector Manager and his management team in Dunfy get their bonus,who cares eh!,somebody soon is going to take photo's and get them sent to the press

The put up a notice in our office asking for people to come in and clear packets on sunday.... Not a lot of names on that list today.
I wonder how many will go in and also how many will use their own transport too?
Also, on a slightly different note. Has anyone noticed how many letters are postmarked the 12th-14th Jan lately.. a suprising amount if you ask me considering that there were a huge amount of Yorks of mail that we have had in over the past two days. A bit of a jump in postmarks on letters if you ask me. Are RM putting mail on hold and then processing them straight away to imply that the backlog has been cleared and this is just the mail caught up in the past few days by the last lot of bad weather?

manager at macclesfield d.o offering "nights!!!!" ips, early starts , sunday packet deliveries and ips. there ain't many takers ,apart from the same sad bastards who run round, use their own cars etc etc etc. they are even sending rural drivers out with packets before they go on their duties.i'm afraid you get what you sow, they took 600 hours out of macclesfield in the last lot of "savings". they were told this was to much ,but what do we know? today most walks got 2 boxes of "sequenced " mail at 9.45, one box was sequenced one wasn't??? i left the office after my delivery this afternoon and you would be hard pressed to get another york in the place. well it looks like we will be bringing it back again tomorrow. this is the world of macclesfield storage depot!!!!! ::arrrghhh

Same here .. priority was given to getting letters out .. duties that are usually collapsed still in frames .. in excess of 800 parcels/packets to clear

Bristol Mail Centre cant cope. Failed first class items 4th Jan 4600 packets and 12000 letters, 5th Jan 400 packets, 7th Jan 1200 packets and 4500 letters. They are bringing in about 20 casuals every day to prevent such another bad week. Their plan for the future is to remove letter machines, offer voluntary redundancies and keep suspending people.
