just wondering about plantar fasiitis?

Been struggling with a bad foot for a week, and today i rang my lino to see bout doing any light duties becuase off my problem! anyway he says if im unfit for my dutie i will have to go sick, so i said ok i will have to go sick, and i will go doctors to check it out, so went doctors and get informed ive got plantar fasciitis, in other words postman/policemans foot. and require to have this week off and if i need any more time off i would get a sick note. which is fine, but from what ive heard it will take a while to heal, anyway i informed my DOM today and he goes 'everyones getting that'. like its my fault so i said its not my fault is it its your crappy royal mail shoes and excessive workload, i know a few people in my office have got it, since all this absortion crap has come in it seems people are suffering more! I was just wondering though, is it as common in other offices? because if it's not im surly were being given to much absortion, as we have to do an extra 60 houses everyday and when it comes to local offices near us there doing less a week, so how common is plantar fasiitis in other offices?

dunno about that fancy named ailment you have had but im my office there has been two people had to have hernia op's within a couple of months of each other myself being one of them. im only 31 and the docs said it was rare someone my age getting one! no coincedence that they happened just as the worload started getting heavier!

Hi have had the same complaint. Put some insoles in my shoes which helped a lot. Now after about six months has improved but still gets bad on a busy day. Yes it is quite common in my delivery office.

yeah the doctors gave me some insoles and told me to rest till the pain goes away! but everytime im walking at the moment the pain is really really bad when im resting it i can hardly feel the pain! going to giver it a week see if it gets any better.

I'm afraid that there is no cure for it, you can have steroid injections into your foot but these are meant to be extremely painful and are very hit and miss as to whether they relieve the symptoms. I have suffered with this for the past 3 years, soft gel insoles in your shoes help, and ask to see a physio when you see your doctor next, as the exercises i was given to do every morning (achilles stretches etc) before work have really helped.

Found a change of shoe helped ,also I make sure my shoes are very firmly tied up.If I start getting pain normally one shoe is undone.I also find the lighter my load including (actually especially)the amount on bicycle the less I suffer .Doing the job properly means less probs and try to avoid running.About a year ago there was a very good post on alleviating the symptoms including the reasons why so might be worth a search to find it .Good luck, I used to walk round on the heel of me left trotter just to complete but things have improved.Also consider losing some weight if ness.

yeah cheers people! my weight is fine for my height, i use my bike alot it was just last week my feet were aching like they do when your on your feet too long, then this pain came and wouldnt go! a few people in my office have got it etc, just going too see how it goes! thanks!

i had this 24 years ago.was off work for 5 months. was getting pain-kilers and anti-inflamatory tablets. these upset my gut and caused me acid there. eventually got steriod injection in sole of my foot, unbelievable pain, but done the trick, foot w3as sore for another month,but no problems since

Got similar problem now, related to Metatarsalagia - if that's the right spelling - due to excessive walking.
Got some Orthotic inserts via the GP/NHS, and they work ok, but don't solve the whole problem.
If you're cycling, try to use stiffer soled shoes, as flexible shoes will maske it worse.

Ihad it 17 years ago just before i joined RM. i could hardly walk downstairs first thing in the morning, or when i was resting for a while and got up it was really bad aswell.I got a referall from my GP to see a podiatrician, i had to take two pair of shoes with me on the initial appointment , so they could see how i was walking. He then turned my ankle three times slowly and told me where i had back ache and leg ache. They took a cast of my foot and made some inserts for me. its been great no heel pain,or back or leg pain since. I only wear them now while walking the streets.

Yes ive had it for nearly six years. some days are worse than others. Find that especially in the summer when your feet get hot its so painful. Got inserts made to wear from my hospital. Initially when i went for a consultation i took with me a pair of royal mail issue shoes, the podiatrisrt took one look at them and said i may as well throw them in the bin and also said that they were more than likely the cause of my back and joints problems which i have.Isnt it about time that royal mail were made to be accountable for the ongoing problems which the job is causing everyone. Remember what happened to the miners who years later were able to claim for all the illnesses and problems they had incurred as part of their jobs, It can easily happen to royal mail!

Yes, I had it and was so painful i was on light duties for almost 6 months, they gave me IHR.

I've suffered from this and it's very painful.

They're not cheap but brought instant relief - money well spent when you consider how much you rely on your feet.

Also it's worth getting some decent insoles for your shoes - sorbothane or something like that.
