I have been working with royal mail for about 4 months now and i can honestly say im disgusted by the working conditions.

Especialy the way part timers are treated and mistreated.

Ill be looking for a new job with better conditions asap. or the dole sounds better than this.

If you really think there are better jobs out there then go for it.

Where I am there have been 300 job losses announced in the las two weeks, on top of about 500 during the summer, and we are talking big employers.
They reckon there are at least 11 people applying for every job here, the town looks like a ghost town with all the shops closing, and theres less actually buying stuff, doom and gloom I know but until RM invents a robot to walk the streets this job is pretty recession proof

I wouldn't bet on that mate. The switzerland postal service offer an option to their customers whereby letters are opened, scanned and emailed to ppl who don't want any mail deliveries. So no need for any letter deliveries at all.

In ten years time, this job will just be a van driving job delivering parcels!

You may well not be far from the truth, our local council employs a firm to open their mail, scan it and send it back electronically. I believe the practice came about when the screening of mail was necessary because of the anthrax scare but has continued ever since. Oddly enough the mail is still addressed to the council and then redirected to the company - I've often wondered why they don't just have it sent to them and save time.
