What is the correct walking speed on delivery?

I like to think of myself as rather a brisk walker, I have literally tried walking slow (and very slow to get out of lapsing) and it just bores me to sleep.

The bloke on the frame next to mine and one round the corner have 100 calls LESS than mine, and yet I'm consistantly finished way before they are. Other people doing those duties finish around the same time as me.

I have seen both in action and they are snailpace slow, and thats no joke.

Now who is correct? Me for walking briskly or them for walking really really slow??

I am guessing somewhere in between - a pace that does not do damage to your body and one that allows a standard walk to be done in duty time.

Average pace for me - with all the stops taken into account is 1.9 to 2.2 mph. with a max speed of 3.9mph according to my new phone so prob not that accurate.

Well I have no neck/back pain, knees are ok most of the time, dont suffer hamstring problems.

My legs generally ache like hell when I get in but thats only short term.

I do like to keep at a decent pace without actually running around.

Them for walking slow and taking the piss mate. That is the problem. We wouldnt have to do all this lapsing and bigger duties if everyone worked to a good standard. There are rounds in my office where there are people who are slow, on the smallest rounds and come back later than others. If you put someone else on it that is quicker and better than you will realise that no lapsing would be required.

unless you really take the piss dont let any manager tell you how fast you should walk , i thought it was a load of bollocks when i first herd it and it still is !!!!!!!!!

One of the fella's is in his 50's but has always walked ridiculously slow, the other lad is in his 30's.

While the older fella will do his lapsing 95% of the time, the younger lad rarely ever did it, to the point where he was getting out just before 9 (paid until 2) and still couldnt/wouldnt take his bit extra. He lives on his delivery and knows loads of people who he will stop and chat to endlessly then return to walking at snails pace.

Mid 40s.
Claim overtime.
Finish after their time on a regular basis.
No mendical problems that i khow have. No wait. There is one. They both suffer from over speaking and chatting to customers. And both suffer from to much tea and biscuits cause their lazy bastards!

Wise postal workers will only walk as fast as it takes them to finish their duty on time. Everybody else does more work via lapsing because they're not doing what millionaires like Crozier want, "we only want our people to work all their paid hours", as he keeps bleating.
I could walk faster, but I'm nobody's mug, and especially not Crozier's, that's for sure.

Personally, I'm late 30s, 5' 6" and about a stone and a half over weight. I would say my pace is average. I'm never going to walk as fast as someone who is tall and skinny, but the way I see it, as long as you walk at a reasonable pace for your physique I don't think you can go far wrong. Everyone is different.

Well done Royal Mail...remember the old advert `We know everybodys name` or with us it`s personal.......no need to bother about campaining CWU about walking at 4 m.ph when there are t.wats who run around to make a few minutes but will moan about anybody who dares to claim overtime if they walk round at a normal pace.

If you can complete your duty in your allotted time, your obviously walking at a fair pace. It's only when someone walks at a pace which enables them to make time out of the job, that's where the problem starts, as well as an increase in workload.
