drivers sced!

Post by justin time »

hello all! just a quick question...we are currently going through a resign in our office(the 2nd in the space of 2 months???..a long story).anyway we had a meeting with our union rep who informed us that rm as part of there savings plan want us to give up our ot! which means they want to change the hours of the drivers!!! so instead of me going in at 6am till say 2pm..they will have me going in at 12pm till 7pm(if you know what i mean) so my ot will have gone out the window! now being fair to my rep he has left it in the hands of the drivers and we have said no chance(there are only 14 of us)but can rm do this to us?...should i jump ship and just pick a walk(only reason i do driving is for the ot,its a crap job otherwise)...or should i hang fire?..and will we get compensated for our sced which we will have lost?.....sorry it was more than a quick question, but any thoughts anyone,as this will be a big decision for me as i certainly dont want to be working till 7pm! :arrrghhh

I'd have to be eating grass before I'd do overtime for this cowboy outfit. Having said that, if a company, any company, decides it can get by on a "no overtime" basis, there's not a lot anybody can do about it. There was a time when I couldn't envisage the fortnight before Christmas without some nights going up on the board, and a certain number of hours Christmas pressure SA being given to staff, neither of which hasn't been seen in our office for two years now.

Learn to live without ot is the best solution. Modern businesses want complete flexibility regarding ot. They are giving shorter and shorter contracts, and using the pressure of lower wages so that people will just do ot on demand. These hours are then lost regarding holiday and sick pay. When they don't need you it is hard luck. It kills jobs and kills decent contracts. It is a way of pitting the working man against other working men. Relying on ot has shafted many people regarding mortgages and living standards.

Forget the docket, the argument here is this......wtf is this all about!!
so instead of me going in at 6am till say 2pm..they will have me going in at 12pm till 7pm

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

The duty time is R/Ms way of justifying getting rid of S/A and O/T.

Drivers in our office currently work until 19.00pm anyway well the ones on collections do.

These duties you are talking about R/M class them as hybrd duties. Say for instance there are eigth duties R/M will split them into two groups of four both with different starts times I.E group one 05.45-14.09 and group two 11.00-19.00. What there duties would entail is entirely up to your DIM to work out. We have a similar issue in our office at present and i held a meeting with the drivers over this today as i did with them saturday just gone. I informed them of what i had put in my counter proposal arguing from the angle of loss of earnings and it going through MTSF as we are putting up a fight on this. Once we have thought it this way and if we have no look we will be seeking compensation ,this idea was voted on by the drivers today.

In the near future anyway R/M will take this by executive action .
