I see the CWU is honouring the agreement not to comment, pity Mr Higson is not.

Apparently the word is the Union offered to call the strikes off for 2 weeks which would have enabled a period of calm and allowed further talks to be conducted through Acas with the intention of concluding a full and final agreement.

ROYAL MAIL NEVER RETURNED TO ACCEPT THE OFFER

It seems Royal Mail are happy to go to Acas on the basis the strikes are called off completely until after the Christmas period, & will not currently attend Acas talks unless these pre-conditions are agreed. The CWU know this is not acceptable to the membership.

Dave Ward BBC Breakfast outside Mount Pleasant gave, from my point of view, a good interview. He said that the Union put a proposal to RM which addressed some of their problems. RM took them away and didn't reappear for 8 hours Hope I understood that correctly.

He also mentioned that one of the main worries for postal staff is the eventual change to all part time workers throughout the industry.

Apparently Brendan Barber anbd Dave agreed a statement of the position as of last night but RM did not attend and may have broken the confidentiality of negotiations.

Same old problem. Its not a good kdea to trust anything the RM people say - what's new? Dave also mentioned that 'things were going on in the background' with RM that would affect the outcome (My words)

because they are confidential talks. Did you not see the letter of 13th Oct outlining CWU assurances that needed to be met by RM? That's what they are talking about.

There are currently TUC proposals which are being looked at by both union and employer.
