Public oppinion

Post by Cut Off King »

Public oppinion,It would ne nice to have it all in our favour.

But in any strike situation the majority of the public have no sympathy for striking workers. As they don't have idea what goes on behind the scene's in any industry that they don't work for - they accept what the newspapers / tv news tells them. Its not they're fault, it's just the way things are!

So appart from the customers we see & talk to to explain what is really going , most of of them will only know what they have seen in the newspapers & TV.

My point in this rambling post is that there is never going to be a good time to strike from the publics point of view
We are going to get negative press whatever we do
So now in the run up to XMAS is the best time to strike because it will put maximum pressure on RM to come to an agreement

The vast majority of us do not want to strike, but as RM have gone ahead and imposed MAJOR changes upon us without any consultation That affect not only our work life, but also our private home life too - reluctantly We have no other option but to strike

I bet that most people believe we still get paid for striking :d'oh!

The handful of people I've talked to over the past couple of days where under the impression that we got paid for striking.

Bin Men in Leeds who are members of the GMB are getting it according to Yorkshire TV - but I don't know if its true or just a large donation from a Hardship fund.

BTW Kudos to them they have been out 6 weeks

Before you take what the public opinion perspective from the daily newspapers and Tv websites to heart, just have a look at the names and the times that they have posted!
Quite a lot of the time the ones who are most vocal "SACK THEM ALL" and all that nonsense are usually the ones who put repeat posts in, say the same on almost every comments forum or sit at the computer when most of the civillised worker in the country are actually working!!!
Yet in their hectic workload that they perceive within the private sector, they have all day to browse the internet in their employers time :no no
But the best ones are the ones who can't even be @rsed to find out what the dispute is about and blame the lazy delivery staff because their mail drops through the door in late afternoon or the ones who claim that it doesn't bother them as they haven't posted a letter for years but they would sack us anyway :hmmmm
I know you think you know what you think I meant!
But do you really know?
