Re: Conference call today
Could it be they are trying to recruit Post Office Counters Managers to do deliveries when us "Blue Shirts" hit the cobbles.

Re: Conference call today
it was to tell them how many managers jobs had to go. They want to to axe 166 abm jobs or get rid of mangers with vr. An email went out to all offices informing them of which offices are effected by this went out about quarter to five after conference call. So manager know if their office is effected by this news

Re: Conference call today
Wrong forum mate - this is the purple shirts they don't have DOMS. ABM I am guessing is Acting Branch Manager, but it does sound like they are trying the same tricks though.shelanda wrote:claire1.9 wrote:it was to tell them how many managers jobs had to go. "ABM I am guessing is Acting Branch Manager"
Wrong Guess!
ABM is Assistant Branch Manager. It is part of the Broadbanding structure for Counter Manager brought in last year, which replaced the old CM grades. A lot of ABM's replaced the problematic DBM grade.

And the ‘new’ Assistant Branch Managers are not problematic?bigjames wrote: A lot of ABM's replaced the problematic DBM grade.

Re: Conference call today
Point taken, I actually meant the grade itself not the people occupying it. DBM was a CWU grade with management responsibilities, which was never going to work properly.saunders265 wrote:And the ‘new’ Assistant Branch Managers are not problematic?bigjames wrote: A lot of ABM's replaced the problematic DBM grade.
I am an ABM, so I guess I am biaised, but I would agree that some of the current crop leave a lot to be desired, but that goes for BM's too.

Re: Conference call today
Our Assistant Branch Manager is a very pleasant young lady, but her duties seem to centre on telling me every lunchtime that I need to sell more Credit Cards, Insurances, Travel Money, Special Delivery, ‘E-Topups’, et al. I am not particularly technically adept, but she appears to me to be on something I believe is called a ‘continuous loop system’. On Tuesday mornings she reads to us from Operational Focus, and other publications. I am inclined to think that this may be the most effective pain relief known to man, for, after a mere five minutes of this, I am completely numb. I do believe that at this point even the most delicate parts of my anatomy could be removed with a blunt, rusty saw, – and I would feel nothing.
As for the ‘current crop’ of Branch Managers, and Assistant Branch Managers ‘leaving a lot to be desired’, I couldn’t possibly comment…

Re: Conference call today
Hi Saunders 265 - your office sounds exactly the same as where I work - on a Monday And Tuesday they have to hide all the sharp pencils and lock all the upstairs windows - like you say it does your head in!
Anyone else out there experience similar problems

Re: Conference call today
Looks like we have similar stories...
Our ABM does the monday " sales" meeting... she stands there telling us what we did well and didnt... its a surreal atmosphere because most staff just arnt bothered.
I dont feel its her fault the WTLs are so bad....they have to deliver the same old stuff thats sent down week after week..
I still get the feeling no one has a clear idea of the correct management responsabilities in the branch and were going back to how it was years ago...
As BJ said....previously DBMs were CWU grades doing limited managerial work..so are the plans in the offices losing an ABM to go back to this kind of set up??
they will be bringing back 119's soon!
