Threatened

Post by fothsn »

Hi ok was out on delivery today and happened to push a packet a (flat one) through a customer’s letterbox with two items of mail, now they went through with no force whatsoever. Que a very angry large guy comes steaming out holding what appears to be a bit of plastic off the inside of the letterbox accusing me in a threatening manner I broke his letter box using force! Now I apologised and said I didn’t use force to push the packet through etc, he then marches back to the house I thought the little confrontation was over but looks like he just went to put the plastic back in the house, he then comes back out in a threatening manner squares up to me holding his first ready to punched me! I was in shock. He then just walks back into his house  Couldn’t believe what happened, now I bet he is going to phone up kicking off the postman broke his letter box so I will get into some trouble I bet, but what can I do about him about to attack me? Going to be fun seeing him tomorrow when I deliver his mail... NOT :(

What you should do is contact the police as now this is a police matter due to his threating behaviour towards you.

Go in and tell your dom asap tomorrow and make sure you let him no that you are afraid to deliver to this property until the matter is resolved.

If your DIM is ok he should at least give you the grace of not delivering to that address for the remainder of the week to let things cool off.

He should also be writing a letter to the property informing him of the conseqenues of his actions if this happens again and if it does deliveries are suspended to hs dwelling.

Make sure this incident is documented so if i were getting writing up a statement of events for this incident whilst its fresh in your mind and hand it in to your DIM tomorrow keep a copy for yourself.

See your rep and h/s rep give both of them a copy if you feel your DIM isnt doing enough to protect you then refuse to deliver to that property as you fear for your well being ( take in your rep ) .

To be honest i think you wont be delivering to that address this week as ive never come across any DIM that doesnt take threats towards members of staff very serioulsy, this time around you will be mightly pleased that for once you and your DIM are singing from the same hym sheet.

But make sure you report it to the police at least they will have a copy of the incident ( ask for the crime number ) for your records if anythink happens in the future which hopefully wont ever occur again.

Stay safe Dude

Totally agree with all the above comments :Applause

While your thinking clear write it all down (or type it) with times, what was said etc. Report it first thing without fail.
As for breaking letter boxes ive done a few over the years and with a NORMAL person RM simply pay for a new one. It happens and you should not get into any trouble over it.
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

Happened to me years ago, and it was a RM managers wife who went nuts because the draft excluder on her letterbox wasnt flush on the inside.

Told her if it went in I had every right to give it a shove, and next time get it fitted properly.

Never heard a tweet from her or her husband.

As already said report it to the Police.

It reminds me of the time I was delivering to a house at xmas, I pushed a thick large flat in and it got stuck half way through - so I gave it a shove, then I heard a big crash from inside the house. I looked through the letterbox and i'd pushed the xmas tree over :chuckle Luckily no-one was home so I legged it, they never complained either.

 Yes, report it--I would not deliver to that address again! But, on a lighter note,'on a flyer'talks about legging it--
and shamefacedly, I have to admit I've legged it a few times, when something's gone wrong on delivery, from hearing that awful sound of tearing paper when you HAVE rammed a packet through the door,to hearing that unsecured letter rack behind the door come crashing down!

ive got one where the letterbox falls off every day
there a note on the door saying please refit it or leave it on the floor
do not push it through the letterbox

now ive never done this but its been there since before i did the walk.
ive resisted writing on the note to perhaps fix the letterbox than keep writing silly notes

Something happened to me some years back when a customer hung out of his window waving a kitchen knife at me and threatening to stab me.lol I reported it when I got back and was told that I could get the police involved if I wanted to but it would result in me being taken off of that duty. As it was a good duty I decided not to take it any further. Make sure you wont loose your duty(for your safety) before taking it further.
