Will you strike or cross the picket line?

Most of the guys views in my office are threating to cross the picket line, if a national strike begins, one of the reasons that is, because they can't afford to strike, and some are completely fed up with union, what the mood in your office like? is it the same, or are you fully behind the union, I think I am the only one who think striking is the only option of getting through to the management, I said to one guy, ok you might lose money, but what happen if you are made part time, what happen if royal mail cut jobs, and if you hate the union so much, why are you in it also manageners will pick up anyone who want to work and take them to another office, I am also in the same boat, I too need money, but I won't cross any picket line, I am in the union and we should be supporting them and our guarding our future jobs

I for one will NEVER cross my own picket line nor any other for my morals will not allow this but others who only turn up once a year :cfo have no such qualms for them turning up is as stunning as crossing a picket line!.

That is sad to hear about what is going on in your office and hopefully will not be the case around the country when the national strike begins because if it does happen then we will all be in serious s**t and management will attack and destroy all our terms and conditions.
What you have said in your post is spot on and you need to keep telling your guys this.

I'll be Striking. Not just because I refuse to cross any Picket Line. But because I believe that the Strikes are neccessary, too.

One problem that has come up recently though. Is the problem of the long term Agency Staff. I don't know if you have the same situation in Deliveries. But Indoors, we've had some Agency Workers, who've been working with us, on and off, for a long time now. Some have said that they will support us (and did so in 2007 ). But others, have been completely open about the fact that they intend to cross the Picket Lines, if the Strike goes National.

Now, that creates a dilema. When RM bring in Agency Staff, specifically to cover our Duties when we're on Strike. That's disgusting, and I find it shameful, that anyone would agree to do it. But if it's Agency who were working along side us for months at a time (including now), and are due to still be with us until after Christmas (and probably longer, as we're chronically understaffed!). What do we do?
They don't work for RM, they're not in the Union, they hear about CWU Members crossing Picket Lines, and they insist it's not their fight. How on Earth are we supposed to convince them to support us, under those circumstances?

I am a member of the union and if they say we are on strike then we are on strike! But as luck would have it I voted YES!!

RM's vision is of a non unionised workfoce at the beck and call of their master, and most if not all non managerial grades on pt contracts.
If you do nothing you get what you're given and have no reason to complain.
you hear and read about billy no mates telling any one that will listen "if you dont like it get out, there's plenty that'll do the job, i didnt like my last job cause my boss was a ..........i was shown no respect..........nor were my colleagues............"
Well with people like this about is it any wonder that they allow themselves and their workmates to be treated in such a maner.

Striking is not a bloody jolly up its the last resort of a workforce who are ignored by their employer at every level of their employee industrial relations framework.
i have asked myself what do i envisage in a RM of the future without a yes vote................IMHO it's not pretty

I'll most definitely be striking! Not 100% totally sure what for though ! Lots of rumours and speculation from both sides. However an extra day off gives me the chance to stay up late the night before and watch dirty sexy busty girls doing live phone-in shows!

Mate I know what your saying. I really do. I just keep thinking back to the previous strikes which I religiously took part in. I lost 5 days pay to gain a quite small payrise and not much else. What else did you or I personally gain from the last strikes? Apart from bullying managers! What's to say the upcoming strikes won't achieve exactly the same outcome? What's to say this year we strike and then Royal Mail think up and offer a silly little package, the Union shakes their hand and says thank you just like last time. 2 or maybe 3 years later were gonna be in the same boat again! I don't mean to sound downbeat but it's just how I see it.

Don't get me wrong I'll be striking and would never ever cross a picket line. Anyone who is in the Union and doesn't support them should be kicked out. Simple. There again the Union needs all the money it can get. Even if it does come from members that don't support their cause. It's quite ironic. The very people that ruin the Union because they don't support their causes are still donating money to it. It's about more than paying your fees. It's about standing up and being counted. However sadly less and less are standing up to be counted. Yes, they pay their fees and yes they'll vote yes for strike action. When it comes to losing a days wages how many will really be standing on that picket line? EVERY SINGLE member of the Union should be on the bloody picket line! No excuses! Any Union member who is not on the picket line should be kicked out. No questions asked. I really am bored and tired of Union members not supporting their striking colleagues. Maybe the Union should concentrate on supporting the guys and girls that do support the Union and who do support the strike and who do lose wages for the cause. Rather than take money of the members who pay their fees but won't support the cause.

I know the Union is only as strong as the people in it. Surely if the people in it don't support the Unions views and actions they should be kicked out of it?

Is it really all about money? Is it really all about the fat cats at the top of the Union tree? Surely not.

If not then why not remove Union memebers who don't support the cause?

One of my biggest bugbears is when someone in my office say to me the union say 1 thing and rm say another, so please tell me I ask when have rm ever told you the truth?? it's lies lies and more lies I as a rep always tell them the truth even when unpalatable! So then they say but I voted no so why should I strike, because you are in the union and the majority vote wins!! So last year some of them scabbed and worse worked their days off if necessary whilst the rest of us were out, and who complains louder than anyone now...............yes you guessed it, but will they strike this time? no! they will be out for just 1 person.........................SELFISH B*****DS!!!!

to all those who dont think they got a raw deal from 07 (although it pains me to praise the P an M agreement) flexing up and down is voluntary with no more than 30 mins being asked. If you remember the business wanted 2 hours at a time that suited them.

The major problem I've always had with the Pay and Modernisation Agreement. Is that it's far too ambiguous. Which is what's causing so many problems now, with RM's "convenient interpritation" of what it means. Rather than implementing the spirit of the agreement.

I also didn't think it went far enough, which is another reason that I voted against it. But the ambiguity, is the most serious threat to us all IMHO.
