Unsociable Hours Allowance

Does anyone know what time unsociable hours allowance kicks in? I thought it was 7pm but someone I work with has said different.

I'm not sure whether this applies to Parcelforce too. But here's the timings for the Shift Allowances at RM:
SHIFT ALLOWANCES

There will be assigned shift allowances, paid all-year-round including during holidays and short-term sickness (periods up to two months), for jobholders with attendances as follows:

Dawn shift (starts between 0201-1400) = £20.40 per week fully pensionable
Early shift (starts between 0401-0500) = £10.71 per week fully pensionable
Early shift (starts between 0501-0530) = £5.36 per week fully pensionable
Evening shift (finishes between 2000-2139) = £15.30 per week fully pensionable
Late shift (finishes between 2140-0159) = £31.62 per week fully pensionable
Night shift (three hours worked across 2300-0500) = £61.20 per week (of which £31.62 is pensionable and the remainder non-pensionable, balancing against the higher basic pay)
Split duties (conditioned hours of a single contract £8.67 pw if total span over 10 hours,
Involving two daily non-continuous attendances, £17.34 pw if total span over 12.5 hrs,
Covering at least four days or nights of the week) £25.50 pw if total span over 15 hours.

Please bear in mind, that the amounts, are from a decade ago. But the timings remain the same.

Do these allowences still apply as my duty finishes 2200hrs and I get sweet F/A.... Or is it now grandfathers rights?? as I have been lead to believe by those most rightous above me when I started my duty earlier in the year???? I need a definate YES or NO as I dont want to make a total cock of myself when I go in guns ablazing!!

I don't know. I can tell you that those of us who've always had them, still get them for the same times. But I'm not 100% certain whether
newer Posties are eligable. Do you get any form of Shift Allowance?
If you do. Then yes, you are due the Shift Allowances on that list (although the amounts are out of date). I suggest that you download The Way Forward Agreement, and go and see your Rep, in the morning. Some parts of it, have been superceeded by the Pay and Modernisation Agreement. But some of it, is still in force.

Si67 - if you are on a duty finishing at 2200 you should get the Late shift allowance.
I don't know how much it is now though - will try to find out when I go in today.

Thanks for your responses!! Be interested to know what you find out Baldrick much appreciated.. I take it I am entitled to late shift allowence then?? Incidently I have been with RM since before The way forward agreement was introduced, just changed duties a few times since then!!

I am a reserve in a DO and have done every type of shift in that list in the two years since I started working for RM (except split shift) and never received any allowance. I asked my DOM about it and he said that new staff don't get shift allowances. I had a feeling he was bullshitting me but I have never been able to get any proof otherwise. I'm not that bothered really because I don't do these shifts that much and am on 0600 start most of the time.

Didn't manage to get hold of a Rep today, but spoke to a couple of late shift
colleagues and it seems the late shift allowance is about £36-37 pw.
There must be someone on here who can confirm the exact figures.

Yes. The Late Shift Allowance, is £37.66pw.

Is that open to everyone that works that shift regardless of how long you have held that particular duty??

Yes , when the Way Forward came in (2000) existing PHGs on late shifts kept a higher Late Duty
allowance (£36.05) fully pensionable as 'Grandfather rights' while the allowance for ex Postmen/women
and people going onto that shift got a lower rate (£27.54). But the allowance for those holding grandfather
rights was frozen until the late Shift Allowance for everyone else reached that amount in subsequent
annual pay increases.
The shift allowances are pro-rata though so a PT OPG on a 20 hours contract would only get half the
shift allowance.
If I were you I would speak to your CWU Rep. You should be entitled to the allowance if your duty
finishes after 2140, and if you have been on that attendance for a while it should also be backdated.

phone wages and tell them you haven't recieved any shift premium. ask them what to do, they will tell you exactly what form your bookroom needs to fill out.

So when you have the "what did you do that for" conversation with the bookroom you can say you spoke to wages and told them you thought you should be getting it and they confirmed it, and that you should of been in reciept of it ever since you first worked on a shift that attracted it. Get your rep in to witness.

Dont forget the duty attracts the premium not the person.
Attendance on duty during certain hours attracts certain premiums.

I get £6.19 early shift allowance, I worked in Callers and had to do a late shift every other week, finished at 7.22pm and was'nt entitled to any late shift allowance, now I'm back on delivery I'm not entitled to the other half of my early shift allowance

im confused is it right that if i start at 1200 noon im entitled to £20.40 oer week? RE Dawn shifts or is it a mistype?
