Should we sign yes or no?
Was given this at WTL and asked to sign it after DIM gave us a speech saying about us slowing down on the job.
Some of us dont want to sign as why should we and rep said just sign to say you recvd it but thats the same thing aint it?
Also heard lapsing to be done daily every day so not sure about this either.
Help

Re: Should we sign yes or no?
Have to say I am surprised that the rep has agreed this if he has - the title is "Working at Normal Rates" - the word normal is very ambiguous and could be used against you if you withdraw your goodwill and work to the rules laid down.
The title should be "Working at recognised and agreed rate" - however, the rest of the letter just seems to be the same as we have to sign every year in my DO but that is titled "Safeguarding Mail". If your rep says you should sign it as having received it and the last paragraph says this I would say sign it as having received it, but get guidance from your Branch reps just in case.

Put - " Without Prejudice " on top & " signed under duress " at the bottom if you really have to sign - Rep should have flagged that up to Area or Branch even , as that sounds too vague , underhand , curious & ambiguous .TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Have to say I am surprised that the rep has agreed this if he has - the title is "Working at Normal Rates" - the word normal is very ambiguous and could be used against you if you withdraw your goodwill and work to the rules laid down.

If RM try and stitch someone up - that would not be admissible in a tribunal :

Re: Should we sign yes or no?
well if we get this letter in my office no way will i sign it what are the standards and do'es it apply to all staff ? what if you are under the weather and your standards drop why should this give your dim the right to withhold your pay, is this a national letter or a local one, i'm on leave this week so i will print this off and take it to the branch office in the morning. it seems there is a lot of this we will withhold your pay going on what the hell are our leaders doing about it.

Re: Should we sign yes or no?
The unions policy is that you dont sign any documents and certainly not this. The CWU have not been consulted on this nationally and your reps cannnot agree it in isolation.
Managers have for years tried to get indivduals to sign things and the union then seeks legal advice and more often then not Royal Mail back off,

Its all over delivery offices in the PE postcode area.
Some signed in my D.O some didnt, those that did couldnt understand why I wouldnt.
Answer? I dont trust RML and I no matter how benign the DOM may be there will always be those above him who arent all the way up to crozier.

Re: Should we sign yes or no?
i also think its strange a rep advises staff to sign this with vague commitment of normal performance rate, as previously stated if for any reason this was to be signed i would ask for an amendment to the heading . working at a performance rate nationally agreed by cwu and royal mail. id be a lot more happy with something along those lines.

Re: Should we sign yes or no?
Think very carefully before you sign anything as Royal Mail can use your acceptance of these standards at any future tribunal.
No member should sign anything unless the CWU give authority as anything signed can be used to alter your exisiting ccontract ( implied contract ).
